Signs of Spring.

Spring? Are you kidding? There's 3" of snow in my yard. Next weekend, we're tapping the maple trees. I can't hope for so much as a crocus for three more weeks.

Despite our 2 feet of snow on the ground (and they're calling for more) My first sign of spring every year is this: Across the road from where i work is a church with 3 miniature crab apple trees. The fruit on them is tiny and they dont become ripe til winter meets spring. When that time arrives.....there are annually between 25 and 50 cedar waxwings that show up and devour them all. This event was the first time i ever saw a cedar waxwing and i consider it the first sign of spring each year. So anyway, they arrived about 2 weeks ago. So all this snow is nothing because i know the waxwings are way smarter than the groundhog.

I think spring is already here for us. Some of the trees are starting to put out new leaves and there are already little wildflowers blooming. My saucer magnolia has bloomed too, a sure sign that spring is well under way.

Our only sign of Spring so far is the birds are singing more. We still have about 4 inches of snow. It will be close to 50 degrees this weekend though. Right now it's about 13.

OK here are some Spring pictures that I took this afternoon while walking around my yard. The nice thing about Spring is pretty soon my trees will have leaves and I will not be able to see my neighbor's houses.

Chicken Coop under the Sweet Almond Tree. Sorry kind of crooked on the photo. Dogs were playing behind me. The only "White" on the ground my chickens see is the pedtals off this tree.
