Silence Is Not Golden Here

I'm salty because they're owned by bratty, spoiled girls who clean house every year with national stock at our small county fair.
The parents do all the work for them.
Well, that's a load. Just think, they'll likely live their entire lives like that. Never truly learn anything and won't need to know because they won't have to.

I'm just ticked because if you have good stock and rare breeds but don't sell them you're not doing anyone any favors. In fact, it harms the genetic diversity of the breed.

Yea cause if you give them away anyone can get them, even if they don't know how to breed chickens to standard
Not only that but they restrict growth if they keep everything for themselves.
I get it, you may not want to sell. Fine. But if you are selling why are you only selling one gender? Or the poor birds?

It doesn't help make the breed better at all. What's the use of breeding a breed back to standard or conserving a breed if you only distribute the kickoffs from your program. I know when I buy off true breeders they only give me quality stock cause they wish to spread good genes around.

I appreciate the way you think :)

I'm currently raising Dark Cornish. I only intend to sell my second best which should be very close to my first choice in quality. The rest, I'll eat. The only concession I'll make is selling pullets to people who just want a "pretty flock". I'll consider selling my non-breeding quality pullets to them.

Yea, as long as they aren't breeding them I do have some space for that. I like to keep the top 5% of my picks, sell the top 10%, then put the rest into meat or sell as laying hens

Well, the Milk Drinker forgave me for leaving him with Mom-mom for 19 hours yesterday/overnight. I think I missed him more than he missed me. He didn't ask for me until about 7 am this morning when he woke up and said to my mom "Mommy". She asked him if he was ready to go home to Mommy and he said "Bye".

My mom wasn't too traumatized by having him for that long, so, more date-nights for me and DH. :woot

I don't think we'll do another overnight until he is completely weaned though. That was rough on me. I was waking every 30-45 min looking for him.
