Silence Is Not Golden Here

Yep, this batch is Lavender Ameraucana Bantams, shipped from all the way across the country. I'm just hoping I don't lose any more eggs! The weather here is driving me to frustration. Just too hot. And now muggy, with the rainless thunder and lightning storm that blew in around sunset. It hasn't cooled off any, but the fire danger has gone up...
Brutal sounding weather wherever you are. It was awfully hot here today as well, but no storms.
I believe it was last year that the fires were so bad that, even in this maritime pocket I live in, the air quality was just awful. Hazy, smoky and still. I couldn't even go outside, which frankly, just doesn't work for me! Produced some of the most beautiful sunsets but so not worth it.

Edited to add: Lavender Bantam Ameraucanas????!!! Oh, boy...

Yep! Bought the eggs from a breeder/shower, rather than 'eBay', this time...

It's been over a hundred for the past week. And is supposed to be for the next two weeks. Last year, there were fires down the hills on both sides of the valley I live in. East of here, they've finally got the Martin fire out... last I heard, it was 440,000 acres and coming my way. Nobody set off any fireworks here in the valley this year. Everybody remembers the fires last year too well... but the Martin fire was apparently started by people setting off fireworks.

@Zinjifrah Would you consider shipping chicks if you get any next year??

I'm not sure I'll be willing to try shipping chicks. I'll have to wait and see... Bear in mind that I only got chickens for the first time this year, and none of mine are even old enough to lay an egg yet. I'm still working out the kinks!

Just thought I'd ask :p
I mean, I'd drive for stock like that.

Best to wait and see how things go - my luck with genders on eggs I've hatched haven't been the best so far, barring the mutts that are too young to be sure of. I know of the eight, there are two that I'm pretty sure are boys, but the other six are still questionable.

This is my fourth batch of eggs to incubate. The third shipped batch. The first two batches resulted in seven Seramas... six of which were cockerels. So I'm not going to count my pullets until they're hatched.

That is crazy weather! I think I'd build a root cellar to live in (so simple, right?)
People can be such idiots sometimes... because lighting off fireworks in a tinderbox is a brilliant plan!

Cellars....

Black widows, brown recluse, scorpions, Jerusalem crickets, vinagaroons, a few thousand other species of spider....

No dice, dude. I recant my statement regarding living in a root cellar. I don't do spiders. The ones that build webs in my garden are welcome guests, but the the creepers who hide in corners and drains? Not so much.
