Good point. I hope your broody is successful! (She certainly has that broody glare, doesn't she!)

I thought of that. I am prepared to incubate. I did move her so she can't collect more eggs. Very Interesting little creatures.

I HAD to have food and water next to my little showgirl when she went broody, or she would have died. She absolutely was NOT eating or drinking, it was her first time too, bout the same time as you hen as well, only she was six months.

I think she just was so intent on setting and since her first time, didnt know all the why's and wherefores. lol She would eat if I put it right in front of her. I got really worried, as she started setting on air for about 14 days before I finally got her eggs, so the poor dear set for about 38 days all told.

She was just as intent as Cyn's broody Sunny, and I am convinced she would have died of starvation if I hadnt put food in front of her silly little face. Most are not quite that intent but DO make sure she is eating and drinking, there are some that just do not.

Sometimes I take a cup of water and dip the head in. My broody refused to drink, similar to yours, when she was a first time Mama. I resorted to fixing the cup weged up the corner, because she was nesting in a nesting box that was based on a bucket. She drank rarely, but enough.

After the first week, her comb and wattles turned, not kidding here-ORANGE!

I grew worried but she continued to eat and drink rarely, though it was normal. She took care of her brood, hatched out 50%, and after she was de-broodied, became a normal chicken. Her face is normal again, too.

Sadly, though, she won't do you any favors when she's getting too weak for herself to handle. Broodies are like metal statues. You can never tell when one growl could be their last...

You're doing just fine.

My silkie is in her 16th day of setting on 6...She swipped a couple of eggs cause the first time I checked she only had 4 eggs and next day she had 6... I brought her in and put her in a dogs kennel because she was getting disturbed and poo'd on and I didnt want her stealling any more eggs...she seems to be fine... she gets up once a day to eat a little drink a little and poo a lot...lol
it is amazing how she can sit there for hours and not move...then she will reposition her eggs and settle back down and stare...5 more days

My 7 month old silkie is full on charge in brooding mode. She is however eating and drinking some not like normal but I guess for what she needs.

She will eat when she is ready just keep an eye on her. This is my girls first time broody too. My hen will have eggs set at different times. I am just gonna keep an eye out and when one begins to hatch I will remove that chick so she will still set. I hope that works..LOL
