Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

She was a good sport ! The right wing definately has the primaries folding OUTSIDE the secondaries. Slipped wing.
Yeah i'm hoping she'll grow out of it

How's this foot feathering coming along? Also, will putting Icelynn's crest up like this help it keep a nice round shape? I had to get it out of her eyes, poor girl couldn't see a thing!

I love her 'do! She certainly is a beauty queen...

I had 11 little showgirls and silkies hatch out today -

WOO-HOO! The first hatch of the year for me! Part of it was also a test hatch for my new black pen. 3 hatched out black with some white on their wings and chest; I've had that appear in my showgirls before and they have always feathered out completely black so I'm hoping I'm good with those colors. The ones that have me scratching my head are the 4 that hatched out with partridge markings. I know that breeders have gotten partridge hatches from black pens before, but does this mean that the roo/hen is not from a black on black breeding? Should I be selling the culprit(s)? My goal is to breed true black/black, BQ and SQ birds and I don't want to make a mistake early on. Whaddya think??

Okay I bought a sparkle spray and used it on ice, what do you all think? Should I use it for showing or no? It is more obvious in regular light but only slightly.

You'll save more feathers in her crest by using paper tape from the drugstore...comes in a blue dispenser. It needs to be put completely around her crest above her eyes. My girls lived in the stuff. If you leave the rubber band on, she will wear a hole in the front of her crest. The tape only sticks to itself.

Blacks commonly have white on wings and belly at hatch.

Is this tape better than hair tape??
