That particular color just seems to be a target for predators, I also lost my first white birds to a predator. Just terrible. You are lucky that your whites stayed so clean! Mine on the other hand, need to good bath, when it warms up.

While I was taking pics of the white, I also grabbed some of the chicks that hatched yesterday
a splash baby.

AWWWWWW! So cute!!!! Are he/she 's parents white? Just curious because my little baby (with the purple ribbon horns) looks like a white chick, but I don't have any white ones at the moment.

Maybe you just got lucky and you have two birds that are carrying the white gene.

I hatched some eggs in the summer and we got a couple of white chicks. We had 2 white hens but no white rooster. At that time we had 2 roosters, one splash and one grey. Which means, Sir Curly (grey) has to be carrying the white gene.

I highly doubt that it's the splash guy.

I can't wait until spring! I will be hatching my very own eggs for the first time.

I'm not counting all the times I've let the hens hatch eggs, they were all PQ birds so I wasn't expecting anything fancy. This time, I have my Catdance youngsters that are turning out really nice. And my first pair of white Cochin bantams also. Now I have something invested in these birds. Hopefully I did my homework right! lol

I guess so. It's hard when you buy others stock because sometimes they don't have a clue of their chickens backgrounds and sometimes they just tell you what you want to hear.

Yeah, see we are in the exact same place. My CatDance babies are 4 1/2 months old and 3 1/2 months old. How old are yours? I have bought a couple of show animals and then I have three rescue hens, along with a couple of older PQ hens.

Is it possible for you to share a picture? We just had a batch of Polish eggs, which had chicks in a breech position that I could not determine when candling. The little heads were tucked down tightly between the legs at the wrong end of the egg. I did not take pics of the candling, but am curious to see if your eggs look like ours did. Your description sounds a bit similar.

I have a very bad camera and it takes really bad pictures in the dark. I am also a terrible picture taker..this is the best i could do.


air cell on the right..and clear liquid on the bottom, left..it takes up a larger portion than the air cell, in parts it takes up over 1/4 of the egg. The embryos are slow, but active. I am on day 19 and I have a lot of liquid. The rest of the incubator eggs have non and much larger air cells. They are getting ready to internally pip right on schedule.

Do you make a hole at the bottom of the egg cartons?

I prefer a carton in a carton with a hole in the top one. I got lazy on my last batch. no holes and still had 100% hatch.

Still just a baby with lots of growing to do.
