Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

This is Mellow my partridge silkie she is the first silkie I've ever had,I got her when she was about 5 weeks old now she is about 2-3 months old. Are her leg feathers too short and is this the right coloring for a partridge silkie? Is she actually a rooster? Feel free to critique away.

Are her tail feathers supposed to be like this?

right foot.

and the left foot.
She is a she. Pretty girl. Possibly hatchery stock? Lack of leg and toe feathering. Her fourth and fifth toe seem to be fused but she has five on each foot and that is good. I think for two to three months old she is cute. I don't really think her tail looks bad at all. Love the name 'Mellow'. She looks like a sweetie.

Thank you for your reply.

I've noticed that when I show Mellow my new baby chicks she walks up to them with her feathers fluffed and head up and making a strange noise that she only does when seeing baby chicks, then she pecks at them. If I show her a baby chick and draw my hand away she follows the baby chick all the while making the strange "clucking" noises, it almost looks as if she's an angry rooster

! Is this normal behavior for a silkie pullet?

She may be trying to mother them. Is she making like a chatter cluck type sound if she finds food?

Thank you Sonoran.

So, are they plucked or is that "altering" their type? I do remember someone clipped a hard feather on the foot that was curling up the wrong way.

I have been pleased that I have been raising silkies that have good thick foot feathering and I personally like the look.

plucking foot feathers is pretty difficult--I have tried to pull broken ones so that they will regrow new feathers, and have never been successful

She could use better foot feathering, but that is the correct colouring for a partridge girl. (actually the head should be deep reddish bay, but I don't see that often, and I've never seen a judge mark down for the dark heads.

Quote: Can we lose the non-standard abbreviations? No real answers for F1s, But eventually you could get blue partridge. Buff X blue can get you a bunch of mutt colours, but you can also be ucky and have the genes line up right and get blues and buffs. But that would probably be a very small percentage. Pairing grey with black will vary depending on whether the black is gold or silver.
