What a beautiful crest. He is really nice. I have a young blue roo who looks different from yours and Hawkeye's. I should start taking pics of him and track the changes as he matures.

Is black underfluff as black as the top feathers all the way to the roots? What color is the feather shaft? Can someone post a photo of black under fluff?
I'd love to see a picture of your blueWhat a beautiful crest. He is really nice. I have a young blue roo who looks different from yours and Hawkeye's. I should start taking pics of him and track the changes as he matures.
My blacks with the bluish fluff, also have odd light s"treaks" in their foot feathers. I'll try to get pics...
Here is an article about black genetics. Some genetics gurus on The Coop took exception to a few of the points made by the author of this article.

I like this idea and am glad you started with black! I just started accumulating a few silkies trying to get back into the breed after a long time. I just sort of got what was available and some of them are nice enough but I have never had splits and my black cockerels are black/lav splits. I have one black pullet from a black pen. What can I expect from the splits? My understanding is that unless bred to a bird with a lavender gene they will just continue to exhibit the black color? One of the boys has a lighter underfluff... is he a blue/lav split or just a bad black ?This is the one with the lighter underfluff. As he is getting older it is more obvious especially on his feet.Excellent idea! Pick a color!
I'd love to see a picture of your blue![]()
