Silkie has baby chick

Shorty I am curious I guess your mama chick and babies are still in the coop or nesting boxes another words you haven't moved them?
Thanks to everyone for your sympathies

Maybe my mistake was to move them out of the coop and put them in a closed plastic pet carrier...it seemed in the coops nesting boxes the chic could not get water

I’m so sorry for your loss too. :hugs No matter where they are, make sure they have constant access to plenty of clean water. Could the pet carrier have gotten too hot? Was the bedding damp? I can’t figure out why a pet carrier would cause a chick to die, especially if mom is ok. We had one chick die from being damp when there was an unusual rainstorm and everything was completely wet. The mom just couldn’t keep it warm enough. Good luck with the others. Hopefully some of the experts will jump in here. If not, you might want to start another thread to ask about the pet carrier, but I had a friend who used those constantly with hers very successfully. My heart goes out to you!

It seemed the mother got less interested in her
I really think the mother kind of unknowingly stepped on her (she was a first time mother)
In the nesting box it seemed the chick was too little to step over a piece of wood to get water so therefore the pet crate...maybe the mother got disoriented in the pet crate and couldn't get comfortable...everything looked fine last night when she went to sleep
Oh well live and learn...its just that the chic was so dam adorable!!

Hopefully the other eggs we have from Sir Duke will be fertile and other chics will hatch the other egg that seems next in line under the black naked neck silkie (Abby) will hatch soon it will be 25 days on Sunday but my wife seemed to think it wont be hatching
We are all new with this stuff
...we where surprized when Sir Duke passed away!! I guess we are operating on a wing and a prayer...no pun intended!
