Silkie Hatch-A-Long 2015

It appears that Elvis isn't much of a stud. I might have to change his name to Dudley. All 7 of my eggs were clear on Day 7, so nothing to do but switch to OE eggs, lol. I'll be moving to another hatching thread, but i wish everyone here the best of luck with their silkie hatches. Silkies are the sweetest chicken out there!!!

So sorry they didn't grow. I'm going to need to get a brighter candler as I can't see really well in the darker eggs. I don't know if they are clear or if I just can't see.

@LisaLouHoo sorry with Elvis! good luck with the OE @Tammylr I almost have better luck with smaller LED flashlights than candlers and they are cheaper too half the time it seems. my last one burnt out so using a candler now, but planning on getting a new flashlight this weekend at walmart. can't recall the last type I used, but just gonna test a few out for brightness and see what I like. gonna try a 3 day candle tomorrow night, time is clicking by soooooo slowly.....

trying to patiently wait.... and my broody is still patiently sitting as well... fingers crossed she sits tight, altho the poor thing has been wanting to hatch for sooo long, she sat with my last broody hen the entire time through out her hatch, so it's this gal's turn. gonna toss her a few eggs saturday if I have viables.... again fingers crossed....

I'll be getting some more LED lights as well, I got my maylay eggs in yesterday.mim going to have the most mixed up brooding pen. I'm hoping the silkies will have enough of a jump in growth on the maylays that they can stay together while inside before they go out to the pens. Everyone looks like they are growing well. I can't see much in the darker eggs though.

This is my first time using an incubator and I just set about thirty eggs yesterday morning. Mostly silkie/frizzle but a few backyard mixes. Well we had company last night until late and I completely forgot about turning them...have a ruined them already? I turned them all this asap. :-( Thanks!

No, you haven't ruined them. I've read posts where people haven't turned their eggs AT ALL, and they still had chicks hatch. Just get back on schedule, they'll be fine

I'm getting back in on this hatch-a-long! I'm still in collection phase, but my Silkies and Sizzles have been laying like crazy. So, I figured, why not? I'm hoping to end up with somewhere around 50-60 eggs to pop into the incubator. AND, my Silkies and Sizzles are separated into the breeding pens this time, so I'm excited to see what comes from them this time!!!

I don't think our egg under the broody is going to hatch, i think its been too cold
Can't wait for them to start laying again, so i can fire up the bator again

my two lil silkies at 3 days old I have 5 more I have to take off of the egg turner and lay on its side in the hatching incubator... Lockdown tonight!

we are on day 5 today, peeked yesterday (as I have control issues... lol) the 3 eggs from my coop all showed veining, woot woot! and 10 out of the 14 shipped showed veining, it is still early, so we'll see it more show or if I get early quitters, but stuffed the 3 from my coop and one of the better veined ones from the shipped eggs under my broody, she is in heaven at this point.... fingers crossed for her... if she does good i'll give her a couple more in a few days when I check her eggs for development again. sooo nervous about giving her eggs.... gotta trust my broody, just hate anything to happen to my little shipped eggs!!! got some cuckoos in there i'm just craving!!! (not that I don't want everyone to hatch!)

BY mix egg hatched today under a broody silkie. The silkie egg pipped earlier today. Gonna try to check it before bed.
