I did my day 7 candling. I'm down to 10 eggs. Looks like the air cells on all but 3 have reattached. I had checked them on day 5 and they were all still moving, so I guess those extra 2 days did the trick. I started tilting them. One side of the carton to the other. I'm hoping by day 12, all are solid. Lost my porcelain and my partridge egg! These air cells are crazy shapes, so I will trace right before lockdown, incase I need to assist. Im going to try to save as many chicks as possible at hatch time.

I am so perplexed by Silkie colors! I am wondering if the chicks I thought were silver are actually lavender. I also have a chick that hatched dark, almost black, that is feathering in a dark lavender. I have a dark gray chick that has feathers coming in totally black!? One of my other light chicks may also be a paint, it just has one dark wing feather.

I should probably stop trying to figure out what is what and just wait till they all feather out! Of course, once I know what colors I have I still have to figure out roos and pullets and see what colors can go together. I should just chill because all of that is going to take months!

Who needs an excuse ; )   We can trade eggs in the Spring too!

Yes!! I would love that!!

I'm in the exact same boat! So we can try to figure it out together. I hatched a black chick back in June and he/she is starting to get light grey/lavender feathers in on the chest! I was totally surprised. I'm definitely keeping my white cockerel and hopefully one more male and then as many females as I can get! My youngest chicks are 9 & 1/2 weeks old and I still can't figure out what sex they are. I posted on one thread and didn't get many sure answers. So I posted on the "sexing your silkies" thread and am still waiting for a reply.

slow reply sorry, had to catch up on work and coo over chicks!
8 still doing great with Margaret Hatcher, their silkie surrogate mum.
Ruby I dont think I will be much of a comparison, I'm down to 2 developing eggs. both have stable aircells now not jiggly now, but 1 is very misshaped, comes a long way down the side as well as the egg top.
these were upright for 6 days, with tilting starting after 3, then under Margaret for 3 while the others hatched, then back in incubator and being tilted. i've decided to keep tilting to day 18, mainly to help the chick with the poor air cell move in the shell.
So sorry to hear about your partridge and porcelain.

I love it!

Feel a bit bad for her, she is the sweetest, calmest little thing, but she was named as a joke before we knew her character.
