How was your temp in the incubator? Maybe recalibrate your thermometer and see if it was a little low. Maybe that's why it's taking a little longer? How long have you noticed the chirping for? I'm sure they are ok! If nothing by tonight, maybe give them a quick candle and see what's going on? You could make a small safety hole in the air cell to ensure that one chick is getting oxygen. Hatch time is both a miracle and exciting but so nerve wracking at the same time!!!

The incubator temp was a solid 99.4 all 18 days and I had 2 thermometers. I've been noticing the chirping since 4 pm yesterday, so it's been about 20 hours since it internally pipped. I'm not sure if the chirping is coming from just one or several eggs though. Tonight I'll make a safety hole for the ones who haven't pipped. Death before hatching is such a letdown

Ok. That's good to know. I would make the safety hole after 24 hrs, for sure. Technically tomorrow is hatch day, so don't worry yet!! My silkies always hatch on day 20 but I keep my temp at 99.9-100.0. So I bet they will start pipping tonight and all hatch by tomorrow!!

Fingers crossed for all our little eggs!!

I have 13 of mine in lockdown, just raised humidity today. I still have 3 in my cabinet and their air cells are still pretty small but better than they were before. I am just going to keep them in there as long as I can while keeping an eye on them. I am going to be at the beach most of tomorrow but my temp has been right around 99.5 so they may not be ready till Thursday. I was just at the store and forgot to get batteries for my flash light... hopefully it will hang in there for a couple more days!

Can't wait to see some chicks!!

Good luck!! Wait until you change the batteries, you're going to be amazed at how much brighter it is. Is the plan to put the eggs in the cabinet into the incubator once they internally pip? I was at the beach all day Saturday. It was amazing! Have fun. I don't think I'll have any action until Thursday, myself! Update when you can.

Day 20

I have a pip! I was getting worried about the chirping one, so I opened the incubator and checked it and it's pip was on the bottom! I turned it so it would be right-side up and checked the others for pips on the bottom and there were none, this is my only pip. I candled them and 3 look like they're moving and 3 don't have any movement. I hope they aren't dead.

As of right now I have no idea how long this one has been pipped since I found it on the bottom.
I hope the others hatch!

Congrats on the pip! I was thinking that you might have one and not see it. I never hear chirping without a pip. Is it malpositioned? What's the plan? Good luck!

good luck and great to see vthey are getting going, I know you are worried about opening but I'd keep a good eye on bottom pips with the others.

So I locked down last night. Candled and saw good movement in 4. 1 was iffy but I still saw a tiny bit of movement in a wavy motion. 2 look dead. They look like the outline of the chick has stuck to the side of the egg. I've left them in for now but I don't think they are alive. It looks light inside the egg except for the dark outline of chick. But chicks look dried out. Hard to explain. Wondering if humidity was a factor. Will be interesting to eggtopsy. One of the eggs with good movement is the porcelain but air cell goes all the way down the egg. Will most likely be an assist if it makes it at all. I'm really hoping that one will internally pip but I don't know if it has adequate room to position correctly. If I get a pair, I will be more then lucky!!
Oh you've got internal pips then!! So exciting!! Can't wait to hear about them hatching!! Good luck!!

good luck Ruby, lets hope they were resting before their big day!

watch for those underside pips.

its hard to learn by experience but i guess we all do.

I am glad you found your pip! Usually when I can really hear chirping there is a pip somewhere and sometimes I forget to look underneath : )
