Silkie history

Hi, I have read bits and pieces in various threads about silkies about their history in North America but was wondering if there was any definitive history of the breed, where the stock came from, why we ended up with just one type of silkie instead of a standard and bantam like in other countries, what the original colors were...

I just can't seem to find much about their history, except they came from southeast Asia originally.
