Silkie is a breed, satin is a feather type. She probably meant your silkies will be smooth, not frizzled or fuzzy. Satin = smooth.

Here are a couple of my pet-quality satin silkie hens I have for example vs. one that isn't.

how old are they when you can tell if they will have the smooth feathers? I believe these are 1-2 weeks

Feather types can be figured out now, (1 week usually). It's color and sex that takes a while. Color probably a month old, but I have some 3 weeks old I'm not sure of yet. Sex takes about 4-5 months.

I guess the wing feathers are what she was saying make them smooth? I’ve never owned silkies before we just wanted some fluffy chickens 😅

American SOP has only one skin color and only one feather type registered for Silkies... the rest are crossbreeds. I believe.
