Silkie saga

OMG....you have an aggressive BA too??! Must be an Australorp thing...My Pearl an Australorp was just like your Jersey, she would attack me, bite me and draw blood, flog me, all of it! She was even aggressive with the hens, ripping their combs, just an awful personality! And I don't like to be glad a chicken has passed on, but Lucy died at the age of 7, good grief, I was relieved and so was the flock that she was gone!

Jersey had a stretch were she had me almost to the point where I wished I didn't have chickens her first year. I'd walk outside and instead of peaceful chickens doing cute chicken things, it would be total chaos. She was downright nasty, she'd run back and forth stepping on the other chickens, pecking them, knocking them over. She was such a peace stealer. I ended up putting her in a timeout coop for 3 days, if that didn't help I was going to get rid of her. After that, she reintegrated with the flock and was a lot more civil. Still the boss, but not as completely put of control.

Thanks, Pearl was a gorgeous gal, but so mean. The way you describe Jersey, sounds like a sister to my Pearl. She was was just as bad. Glad to hear Jersey had improved! Pearl wore pinless peepers much of her life, was in and out of jail a lot. I did my best to give her a good life even though she was so mean. Still loved her even though. :D

Lol, the outlaw of chickens, done some hard time, no possibility of reformation, grew up in a rough coop and learned from a young age that only the tough survive. Doesn't know how to love or be loved. 🤣

:gig She was a hatchery bird. She probably bit someone at the hatchery and they were glad to send her my way. :lau I still think of her often, ❤ such a shame she was such a brat.

Cappy's 14 week, am I a pullet or cockerel photos. Still not completely obvious to me but I'm still leaning cockerel.

Pretty! ❤ I can see some wattles coming in? Tall stance too, but what do I know about Silkies. Love the fluff! 💞

Sounds like we are on the same page 🤣 I don't know much about silkies, but I do know they are dang cute!

By the end of next week I should have silkie chicks popping out! The 16 that are remaining "look good" to my untrained eye 🤣 I'm trying to hold myself back from candling again until this weekend. I saw them moving yesterday, so neat.

So egg-citing! I will be on the edge of my seat waiting to see the floof coming out of your eggies! :jumpy It really is fun to follow the egg development, it's just amazing to watch an egg turn into a tiny life. :love

The egg eaters have been behaving fairly well I think, I have been getting about 6 eggs a day from the 11 chickens. I've been getting a couple eggs in the rollaway box and a couple in the regular nesting boxes with the curtains. I have my nice 4 hole nesting box my dad made cleaned up and ready to go into the coop to upgrade from the 2 hole, as I need the 2 hole in about 4 weeks for the pullets in the other coop. Since things are going well, Juravenator decided she's done being broody and has rejoined the flock 😮‍💨 really? If she goes broody again in 3 weeks from now I think I'm going to lose it 🤣 she's probably going to wait until til the silkies are too old to slip under her, then go broody again. 🙄
