Silkie saga

Pics
The egg eaters have been behaving fairly well I think, I have been getting about 6 eggs a day from the 11 chickens. I've been getting a couple eggs in the rollaway box and a couple in the regular nesting boxes with the curtains. I have my nice 4 hole nesting box my dad made cleaned up and ready to go into the coop to upgrade from the 2 hole, as I need the 2 hole in about 4 weeks for the pullets in the other coop. Since things are going well, Juravenator decided she's done being broody and has rejoined the flock 😮‍💨 really? If she goes broody again in 3 weeks from now I think I'm going to lose it 🤣 she's probably going to wait until til the silkies are too old to slip under her, then go broody again. 🙄
Glad the egg eating is under control! Such an annoying habit. 🙄 Oh no, Juravenator! Don't you wish these broodies had a switch you could flip on them. Anybody else that might go broody soon?

She's has the worst timing! The only other chicken who has ever gone broody was Jersey, and that was once about 2 years ago. Even if she did go broody again, I'm not sure I want little Jersey monsters running around. She might teach them her mean ways 🤣

Yes you definitely want a sweet momma to raise the babies, we both know what it's like to have 1 monster in our flocks, you definitely don't need more! :D

I heard a silkie crow this morning! I'm not sure who it was, but it sounded like one of those singing rubber chickens trying to crow 🤣 it was great, I was so happy. I've been waiting to hear the little squeakers for weeks 😃 it crowed back and forth with Fizz Bang for maybe 10 minutes, but of course stopped before I got outside. He's an early bird, lol.

:lau OMG...this video is too funny! Yes young crowers sure sound broken. :gig Thanks for the laughs this morning!

I let everyone out tonight, Fig and Nu dug into a cucumber and paused to pose for a picture 🥰

A couple of the silkies froliced into the corn, I was trying to come up with a fitting "corn silk" joke, but no luck so far 🤣

And, we had a visitor tonight that our dog kindly alerted us to. This is Loaf, we saw it a few months back but hadn't seen it again until today. I would guess it is close to four and a half feet long. It's likely a black racer, but it also could be a rat snake, but I'm not going to get close enough to find out for sure 🤪

What lovely photos, they really do look like they are enjoying themselves noshing on cukes and corn!! :D ❤ Thanks for sharing these!

Ooh, Loaf is a long one!! I am thinking you are correct, he is probably a Black Racer. We have Rat Snakes here and they are usually fatter, thicker. Snakes sure do scare the heebie jeebies out of you don't they?! They do keep the mice down around the coop. They eat eggies though, bad Snake!

They eat the eggies!?! Oh no!

Ok, just quick researched and I read that you can build a pig pen and put the chicken coop inside and the pigs will take care of the snakes. This is not out of the realm of possibilities if it starts eating eggs! Especially if it gets a chick. 😳😡☠️

I really don't want to kill it though, just tough talking, lol. If it came to it I'd have my friend who loves snakes come and relocate it.

Update day 14 (or is it 13, now I'm second guessing and need to check the calendar) anyway, I have a few eggs I've been weighing and a few I've traced the air cells.

Here are the air cell photos, do these look good for day 13 / 14?

They've been much darker inside than the informational chick development egg photos, but I'm seeing healthy veins and movement so I think they're ok. Trying not to stress, I've got that in abundance at work already, but I'm really wanting to do perfect for these little growing peeps 🥴
