You sound like me, second guessing is what I do best! Yes assisting a hatch is nerve racking, let's hope you don't run into this early on in your hatchings. My personal opinion is that hatching is the first test in life and if they can't get out of the egg, they may not be fit for living, however this is only my opinion if all the others made it out well enough. BUT....at the same time, I can't stand around and watch them struggle, so I step in and help. Let's just keep our finger crossed this doesn't happen any time soon! :fl

Hmmm.....name that breed! 😜 I have no idea. :lau
I wouldn't even know where to start with a name let alone characteristics 😂 so I guess I'm going to sideline that one for now 🤣

I'm really hoping no assisted hatching. My plan is to candle all the eggs tonight, mark the low points of the air cells and tomorrow morning remove the turner and add some liner.

We have a foal slow roasting too, 11 months 😟 it's taking FOREVER! She's due next April / May. These chicks will be all grown up and already laying by then 🤣 that's an interesting perspective.

I'm also thinking Cappy might actually be a pullet. It has the more male style crest, but still no wattles and small earlobes. Both Nu and Heavy are getting big earlobes. I'll try to get some photos tonight, except I think we are getting home late, so maybe tomorrow.

:celebrate :woot I am super egg-cited for you!! Yeah, I don't think you will be very productive at work this week. You need to "come down with something" on hatch day and call in sick. :gig

It's lockdown day, it's lockdown day!!!!! 😃🥚🐣🐥 3 days to fresh floofs! I have the turner out, extra water in, lowest spot on the air cell marked and facing up. I'm wondering if they will stay there or roll during the next few days? Also what happens when some are hatched and start knocking the unhatched eggs around?

I was determined to see who was crowing this morning, as soon as my alarm went off I heard him! I scrambled to the window were I can see the coop but of course no more crowing. Grr. Another day I'm sure I'll catch him!

Make sure your vents are wide open, they need max oxygen at this stage. Oh and lay down something non skid under the eggs too to prevent splay legs, also helps slow the eggs from rolling around too much.

And yes the eggs will get knocked about as chicks hatch. It looks violent from our point of view, :D but it's normal. Just let the eggies and chicks do their thing.

Ahh....secret crower.... love those!
