Oh no, I am so sorry you have some mystery illness?!It's been a wearing out kind of two days, two different hospitals, one for testing, and one for a specialist... on going health issue that no doc has been able to pin down yet, every time they think they have it, they'll do another test to be sure and it will come back negative for what they think. On to heart specialist # 5...
Einio has had her dent since her little comb could be seen. I'm not sure if it ties into her balance issues or not. Maybe an injury from when she was tiny, I never noticed an injury though. Just her odd movements and lack of balance at about 4 or so weeks old. I was worried she wouldn't be able to function in the coop, but after weeks of vitamins she started roosting instead of sleeping on the ground and she managed to get up and down the ramp. It was a struggle at first but she's able to look pretty handy at it now. If you don't pay close attention to her, it's hard to notice anything now. I'm curious how she'll do over the next several months, if she'll maintain how she is, improve, or the strain of laying eggs may deplete her vitamins? If so, I'm ready with supplements.
I do need to record his crow, I caught Heavy's on video, but not Nu's yet. Cappy Llama is still maintaining its unknown status.
Yesterday I noticed all the pullets in the yard with Fizz Bang. The dog, in trying to catch mice, let the pullets out. Somehow one pullet was in the cockerel's run, one cockerel was in the yard with the others, and there was one pullet left in the proper run. What a mess trying to get them all sorted back into the correct places, all with Fizz Bang trying to attackI had to stop my hubby from freezer camping him, he really loves that dang rooster. I just need to get the cockerels gone so I can lock his mean butt back up. When I went to repair the run, he was all the way across the yard. They started moving toward the coop so I was trying to tie things up as fast as I could. I got about 1/3 the way done when he spotted me. Mind you, this is a raised coop so I had to clamber my way under it and am crouched down with the bottom of the coop maybe 2 1/2 ft high. He saw me and immediately saw his opportunity and bee lined to for me all puffed up and started attacking. Luckily I had gotten a leg out when he spotted me and I was fending him off with my boot. I yelled for the dog, it took several calls (she's a bit independent and not so obedient... maybe like her owner...) she finally came over and was so excited that I was down at her level and just knew the only reason I had called her was so I could pet her. So there she is, in my face trying to lick me (eww), all excited while Fizz is beating my boot up. He finally left and I scooted out of there. Ugh, darn rooster. He's either getting locked back up or I also looked up some great sounding Coq au Vin recipes... either will work.
The splint isn't really working anymore for Nah, it seems worse again and I'm not sure why. Frustrating, it seemed like it was heading in the right direction. I haven't culled Hoppy yet, I'm pretty sure that's the right choice, but I can't maintain the resolve under questioning.
I think those are the major events of the last two days. I'll post a sleepy Base in a moment![]()

A friend of mine had a rooster that she hatched herself. He was weak as a baby and frequently had shakey spells where he couldn't get on the roost or could barely walk. She used vitamins on this bird too all throughout his life, he lived a long life with his weakness and was a happy friendly boy too. So yes you may need to use vitamins on Einio on and off the rest of her days. Some birds just seem to have trouble absorbing nutrients I guess.
You know, it might be time to....well you know...send Fizz to freezer camp?

Poor Nah.

Awww....Base is adorable up there!!!I see I got a zip tie right across her face, otherwise it's a cute photo. I know sleeping on the nesting boxes is not preferable, but she can't get up to the same roosting bar as the others and she doesn't like sleeping on the lower bar by herself. Once I moved the nesting boxes in she immediately took to sleeping on them. Better than IN them, so I'm ok with it. The funny thing is, the roost everyone else uses is only 2 or 3 inches higher than the boxes, so I'm not sure how she can get on this, but not the roost. I've tried to give her a step to get on to get to the roost but she won't use it.
Pretty quality I know, but I think she's adorable.

Well, get some rest out there. Tomorrow is Thursday, weekend is getting closer!! Sleep well my dear!
