I don't think added vitamins can hurt, especially with Silkies. Some can be prone to being unable to absorb enough vitamins, so I think it cant hurt, especially for growing babies. Also, I've been giving them Nutrina chick starter with Fertrell breeder supplement, this morning I did the same and added vitamin D and a B complex. I'll do that for a week and see if that helps. I've never had a slipped tendon before, the grain mites are so bad this year, I'm still not sure if maybe that it ruining the nutrition? But the Fertrell's should help compensate.
I asked the breeder if he had any lameness in his chicks and he said no.
And yes, I would think the breeder of these birds knows what's going on in his flock. This is a relief, I really don't think it's AL!
At least he got some love and quality sleep with you.
Give the little guy some love for me. ❤
Just keep working with both of them, and hopefully you can get them back to good strength soon. I did a Google search on what causes slipped Tendons and apparently it's a Manganese deficiency? You might do more research on this and maybe find foods that you can feed them to help with this condition? So I'm not so sure it was the incubator or hatching techniques. Either way, you are doing a great job with the splints! Keep me posted on these two!
He's going to be a gorgeous bird!
How does such a handsome boy start to go so bad?! I hope he doesn't get worse, just be careful around him and don't turn your back on him. He could really hurt you if he came up from behind!
How is Hoppy doing? You are right though, a bit of uncomfortable now will pay off for a lifetime of comfort. If you get this figured out, you should write an article for our Learning Center, there are others with this same issue that can benefit from your experiences!
It's always the pretty ones too. Well, boys be boys I guess. They can settle down as they age, fire burns down, hormones diminish. If this is as bad as he gets, you should be able to get through it all.
