Silkie saga

Chickens DEFINITELY have healing powers, they have saved my life a few times. :D Sounds like you need a lot of hugs, :hugs life can definitely wear a person down. Glad your friend is ok, hopefully they heal soon and make a full recovery!! I recently lost my best friend to cancer and it definitely rips the heart out. Not easy to see them in the hospital, I know. :hugs Well, definitely make time for yourself this weekend before you go back to work, do get so burned out you get sick. 🥰

Awwww.... what a cutie pie!!! :love So darn cute!!! 💖 What a fun name, Chonkers, he is adorable, squinty eyes and all. :p

Well my dear, have a quiet restful evening!! 💞
I'm so sorry for your loss, good friends are such a blessing and it's so hard to lose them. It sounds like you could use a lot of hugs too. Life is hard, full of rough patches, I'm glad the chickens helped you get through so you could in turn be such a help to me.

This past week I've thought about 'what if your last conversation with them, was the very last one you ever had', it really has made me think. Or if you knew it was your last conversation, what would you say. And, if you would typically say something different, why would it take being your last conversation to actually say that? I'm hoping I can become bold enough to start speaking like this to everyone. The ones I love as well as the people on my team, if I can say something to my employees that will help them do better at work, why gloss over things and let them continue not meeting expectations which will then hold them back from raises and promotions?

After seeing it written, I think Chonkers would be a great name for an icecream. Like a marshmallow ribbon in a vanilla icecream with toffee and chocolate covered pecans. 🤣 hmm, might need a caramel swirl in there too.

Here's the paintings, not done, maybe tomorrow... I do have a lot I want to get done tomorrow so I may not have time to paint. I'm thinking eyes, breaks, a few highlights and stop before I take things too far.

Good morning! I have a lot of acquaintances but few close friends, so when I lost my gal friend earlier this year, it really sent me on a dark lonely path for a while. We had talked every day for over a decade, we shared everything with each other, she kept chickens too so we had so much in common. So yeah, it was tough to say goodbye, she took a piece of me with her to the grave. My hubby and I talk about the subject you mentioned about "last words" with each other all the time. We never do know when one if us could pass on, death is so final and it would be tough to live with regrets of not having said positive words or any words in the end. Words have incredible power with our loved ones and strangers as well. Good words are good for our own souls as too, all pretty complicated. :D

Awww....love the Silkie paintings! 💖 This breed is not easy to draw, you are doing fabulous getting all the hairy feathers defined, perfect colors!! Many times you can't see their eyes anyway, Silkies are all floof with a beak attached. :gig Great job!

Enjoy your day today! Give those babies some lovin' for me. ❤ Nothing special planned here today, which is fine by me. :D

You sound like us, we are friendly people, but have few true friends. And the friends we do have are no different than family. My hubby has given us some bad scares over the last few years, ICU after a wreck then it's been freak cardiac stuff since Dec of 19, the importance of living in the present, making more out of the good things in life than necessary, life is hard, so laugh louder and harder at every silly little thing. It's hard to lose a piece of you, it never gets filled again, it seems the only healing is through finding more to love. I'm glad you found your way back.

I have managed to paint one stroke so far today 🤣

Most of the day has been in the kitchen, I pulled all the turnips from the garden and got them cooked up, all, making about 4 servings and taking 2 hours, horrible ratio, lol. I got some beef soup bones roasted and they are simmering now. Our friend will likely need a liquid diet for awhile, so homemade bone broth should be nutritious and healing.

I haven't had a lot of time with the chicks but they are relatively calm, so that's good. They are SO soft, the satin ones are really soft too, but the silkies are so so so soft.

Base, I got a little egg today with a white silkie feather stuck to it, so I'm not sure if it's a silkie egg or one of her feathers just got stuck to a fresh SLW egg. I think she's still young, but, she is hatchery stock so who knows.

Gosh that must have been scary with your hubby in ICU, especially the cardiac stuff! :hugsI would have been a total train wreck! Our bodies are so fragile, life is sacred. And there's no guarantees on length of life either. Any one of us could drop over dead at any time. Its definitely time to make the most if every moment, slow down and cherish our lives. And even if we do end up living to 90 yrs old, (good grief, not sure I want too, :gig ) life goes by in a blur and before we know it, it's going to be all over with. Time to live in the here and now. I hope your friend heals up soon, and can go home from the hospital? Bone broth is excellent for nutrition, easy to digest and great for those on the mend. I am sure they will appreciate it!

You did more than I did today. I did manage to get the dog bathed, watered the Lilac bush and did a load of laundry. That was the extent of my day. :D

Every time I see your birds, my heart warms and I get a big grin on my face! :love I don't know why Silkies make my heart melt, but they do! So pretty your birds are, I just want to hug them all!! 🥰 Base is a very gorgeous bird,❤ love Einios side eye. :lau All your birds are stunning! :love Thanks for sharing!

Enjoy your evening my dear, oh and I hope you have an easy work week! :hugs

I think my hubby just likes to scare me, lol. I'm not sure I want to make 90 either, I'd prefer to live like my great grandma, she lived on her own with her cats and ducks, no need for any assistance. She was around 90, carrying wood up the steps on Christmas Eve and and just gone. No illness, no nursing home, pretty incredible. Our friend had a set back this week, but will still be ok, just more time in the hospital.

We have 3 lilac bushes, two are absolutely massive, and the other is like a mini lilac, it makes a big bush and is just loaded with mini lilacs in the spring. It's very pretty.

I've gotten 4 pale little pullet eggs, I still don't know if they are from a SLW or from Base. There are quite a few silkie feathers in the nesting box now, suspicious! I cooked some pullet eggs today for breakfast so had to add a hen egg for size reference. I've noticed the yolks are paler on the pullet eggs. I'm assuming it's because I have them on flock raiser and not the layer feed. I'm debating between keeping them on the higher protein feed with the oyster shell, or moving them to the Naturewise layer feed.

It was almost 100 out yesterday, the chicks were not fond of it. The hens were really not happy, three slept in the run last night and I've never seen them do that before.

That's fabulous your grandmother did so well up to 90 years old! I would imagine it's satisfying to be able to take care of yourself at that age and still be able to get around. You may too since you are carrying her genes! My parents and grandparents all made it to late 80s, early 90s, but all needed assistance in the last years. Once I can't take care of myself or can't take my walks, I will be ready to check out.

Feed definitely effects yolk colors, but those are still some gorgeous eggs! ❤ Poor birds and the heat! :( When is your heat wave going to break? We have had 75° all week, 40° degrees over night, but it's still too warm for me. :D Hopefully it cools down soon in your territory. Cute babies! I can see their beaks are open cooling themselves off, let me send some if this cooler air your way. Stay cool out there! ❄

It's supposed to cool down to the high 70s and 80s this weekend and hopefully rain a bit. We are so dry here it's just crazy. Usually we have copious amounts of thunderstorms with lots of rain all summer, dry as a bone now. Water tables are about 10' lower than they should be. We've been in the mid to high 90s for a really long stretch.

Check out the Cappy Llama! Maybe I have been getting silkie eggs after all!?! The weird thing is they just turned 20 weeks old yesterday and I've been getting cute little pale tinted eggs for about a week now.

I'm looking forward to getting home tonight to check the nesting box for an egg! I'm curious if it will be the same as the other small pale eggs, or different. Wow, I may have gotten 2 pullets after all!

Good evening!! Oh gosh, you guys are hot and dry too?! We are supposed to be in the upper 60s, low 70s next week, rain chances too. I hope you all get rain and cooler temps, this has been a brutal summer for all of us!

Congrats on the "hopefully" Cappy eggs!! She sure is adorable there. ❤ Some birds start laying far in advance then the others or for the breed. Let me know if there are eggies!

Nu sure is a handsome boy, ❤ he's going to be one gorgeous guy when he's grown up!

How is the rest of the flock? Is Fizz behaving? :)

Well you made it to weekend, make sure to get some You time in!! 💖

Fizz Bang is still aggravating, but we're getting by. He will likely be invited to dinner when we get cool enough weather coming up to process him... he's gorgeous, but definitely not helping my stress and anxiety level 😱 I saw a leaf wiggle at the corner of the coop last night when I was getting eggs and panicked, got an adrenaline rush, which is absolutely the last thing I need in my life 🥺

I'm hoping for some rest and time with the silkies this weekend! I hope you have a wonderful night!

OMGoodness....those eggs are gorgeous!!! :love I am so happy for you!! Good girl Cappy Llama. 💖 These eggs should help your stress level. :)

Sounds like Fizz will need to go. Our lives are stressful enough, we don't need to be looking over our shoulders all the time, waiting to be flogged one day. And he could hurt you some day when you aren't on your game. I know it's sad, I shouldn't talk because I have a horrible time till culling out birds. But Fizz has the capabilities to become dangerous, so you might just bite the bullet soon and gently remove him from the flock. You gave him a wonderful life, and he is a gorgeous boy, but he can't be lurking and scaring you to death. :hugs

I've been meaning to ask you, how are the two chicks that had the slipped tendons? Were you able to save either of them?

Well get some rest my dear, spend time with your birds, read a good book and make sure to keep breathing deeply to help you relax. :hugs

Have a fabulous evening! ❤
