Silkie saga

Well, I had to go and brag on Fizz Bang... he came at me this morning but turned out he was bluffing as I left the shop with feed for the first coop. I had already fed him in his usual spot but he wasn't interested in eating. The second time I walked by (10 ft from him) with more feed, he came toward me again, I thought he was bluffing, but nope 🥴 he came over and thwacked me 1/2" higher than the top of my muck boot. No blood but I have two bruises, thanks Fizz 😳 the dog was close by so she came to the rescue, chased him about 10 feet then went bouncing off like she knew she's special. Good dog, naughty rooster.

Dang Fizz Bang, 😠 glad you weren't hurt other than bruises! :hugs At least you got some help from the dog. I guess you will never be able to let your guard down. Be careful Fizz doesn't knock you down, I'm sure he weighs quite a bit? Stay safe out there. And give your babies some lovin' for me! 💖

I love all my chickens, but those little silkie floofs I hatched and you helped me through the process, they are just something extra special 💖💖💖 most of them are friendly and I can pet them and they're crazy cute with all their fluff and head poofs. They've sure helped me through a lot of just insane and stressful things this summer and fall. I'm getting a new boss in December, I haven't met him yet, so I have no idea if it might help my stress level and work load, or make it worse. Hopefully not worse, I've been dancing around on my breaking point since February when I took over another department on top of the ones I already had, and then we've just had crisis after crisis all year. Anyway, cute chickens, yay! Lol.

I would guess Fizz is 7 or 8 pounds, I think he looks bigger than he actually is under all those magnificent feathers. But I agree, if I tripped or he knocked me down, that could be really really bad. Ugh, he may end up invited for dinner yet.

Fizzy back before he chose violence. He's always been a colorful boy. He was an obvious cockerel from just 3 or 4 weeks old, he popped rusty shoulder patches and a pink comb very young.

Here's Fizz Bang with Peaches, she's another of my favorites, but she's an egg eater so it makes things complicated to keep her long term.

My older girls are all molting, some are partway through and looking better, others are just getting started. My boss hen Jersey is looking rough, but she still wants to take me on 🤣 she does the broadside, wing dropped, puffed up stance to warn me away. Do I listen? Nope, I ignore it because the pets are worth the pecks 🤣

Here is Jersey 2 springs ago, incredulous that I would dare bring home more chickens. She's a really fun hen, when she was about 6 month-old she was driving me bonkers and had me wishing I'd never gotten chickens. She was a terror, the whole flock would be in chaos because of her, she was a bully and just horrid to everyone. I put her in solitary for a few days and it worked miracles. After that she became a total favorite of mine.

Hopefully this new boss doesn't make your life miserable. :hugs I've had some jobs over the years with the workplace being under such high tension, I had physical illness over it. We devote a 3rd of our lives to our jobs, they need to lift us up, not bring us down. I will be keeping my fingers crossed this new boss makes your life easier! :fl

Fizz Bomb was very cute as a chick, ❤ but I can see evil in his eyes even back then! :gig I think he's giving you the stink eye in that first photo. :lau He did grow up to be a gorgeous boy however, :love but I hope he grows out of this aggressive phase. I think there would be a huge empty hole in the chicken yard and your heart if he had to go.

 This girl does not look pleased about the new additions! :gigPretty face on her! ❤ Some hens can be worse that the devil! I had an Australorp hen who I swear wanted me dead. She could bite me hard enough to draw blood! She ripped combs, flogged me and other birds, just a tyrant. She eventually calmed down a bit as she aged thankfully. She eventually passed on from old age and I think the flock was thrilled she was gone. :D

I've been debating whether to look for another job or not. Some days I want to just pass through HR on the way to the gate and say I'm done and never come back, but I have bills to pay so thankfully my responsible adult brain kicks in. Other days I'm proud of what I've been able to accomplish and handle and want to hang in there just one more day, one more week. Gotta keep those cute chicks fed and housed!

It looked like Fizz was trying to get my hubby this morning as I walked outside, so he will still likely end up not with us at some point, but we would definitely miss him.

I bought chickens expecting them to be dull and characterless, but they are each so unique, some more then others!

I hear you on the job front. :hugs I retired a few years ago, (I turn 64 far too soon, :D ) I'm glad my working days are behind me. It's not an easy decision to leave a company and definitely shouldn't be a hasty move. Hopefully this new boss ushers in a new era for you, one that brings back the thrill of working and staying there. :hugs

Oh Fizz....you need to behave! Well, you will know when the time is right to remove him. It's a shame he can't at least learn to tolerate you both. :hmm And he's such a regal, beautiful boy too.

All this said, at least you have your chickens for stress release and mental support! They really do bring joy to our lives, who knew!!! :)

I will be taking Nu, Heavy, and the two gimpies to the lady at work this week. I'm thankful they are going to have a good home! She has a couple white silkie hens and wants to hatch some silkies next year. She doesn't mind that they aren't show stock, and I'm happy Nu will have a future as a flock sire 😊 I need to get updated pics of the boys before they move out. They're continuing to grow and fill out and their tails are getting longer too.

Oh I am so glad Nu, Heavy and gimpies are going to a home where they are wanted! 😊❤ Makes you feel good about giving them away. Especially Nu, he is such a cutie pie, he will make a wonderful sire to all his offspring!

I love photos! :D:pop

Nu and Heavy somehow ended up in the pullers coop today, I now have fertilized eggs (I got 5, checked 1 and it was fertile) now I'm trying to talk myself out of hatching the eggs I gather this week. Nu and Heavy go to their new home Friday. I have 1 silkie egg, 1 EE, and 2 SLW eggs, and whatever else is laid this week, I could very easily just plug in the incubator (the opposite one from what I used this summer, hopefully it will regulate the temperature better), it would all just be quite simple to just end up with eggs all cozy and warm... the EE crosses could be cool, and I don't need more white silkies, but I mean, someone might want them. 🤔 bad idea, but it's actually a good idea... hubby didn't say no, but we also have no where to keep more chicks. Except I would have until the start of Jan to have to figure that out. 3 weeks in the 'bator, 6 to 8 weeks in the brooder, then mayne out to the porch? Jan and Feb are our absolute coldest months, but the porch and a heat lamp, maybe they'd be ok.

Ugh, probably too much stress to deal with all this through the winter.
