Silkie saga

I trimmed JetPack a little more, he wasn't not near as complacent this time though, he was a total wiggle worm! I also started to trim Fray the Itty Bitty, I wasn't making much progress then hubby came to assist. Once he held her and I was able to freely use two hands it really went much easier. We did her and Freya Maybe Fred. I noticed they had a lot of feathers under their eyes that were clumped like they'd been wet, to me this means they've been rubbing into their poor eyeballs 😳🥺 I'm glad I decided to give them trims! The satins all look good, or is it see good? Lol. I have a couple more silkie feathered floofs to trim but they don't have near as big of floofs as the chicks I trimmed. I have one chocolate frizzle left to trim, I'll try and catch her tomorrow.

JetPack showing of his new fade, or is it a bowl cut?

Question, Cracker is pretty clearly a cockerel, I've caught him trying to crow a few times, he's got pointy saddle feathers and he's got a comb bump. But, when I reach for him to pick him up he squats like a pullet. What's going on? Is he just a submissive cockerel?

Here's Freya Maybe Fred after an eye trim, what a beard!

And some fall foliage, it's been gorgeous around here, passed the peak though now and all the leaves are falling pretty quickly.

OMG.....All of your babies are over the top adorable!!!! :love JetPack looks fabulous, as do all of them! Yes the hair was probably getting in their eyes making them water, they were no doubt rubbing their eyes too. You did fabulous on the hair cuts!! ❤️ I am sure they all are enjoying their new vision!!

Yes, some cockerels will squat in submission when you go to pick them up. This doesn't mean they still can't develop an attitude later as they mature, but many submissive boys stay gentle.

I had to get a lift home tonight so my old boss gave me a ride and she met the horse and the silkies. I picked up JetPack first and she was able to hold him and pet him and he hardly squirmed at all. Sven, Cracker Jack, Sylvi, and Freya all got picked up, petted, and shown off. They all did so well! They were already starting to hunker down to sleep so that probably helped, but still, I was so happy they showed well. She had chickens for about ten years and loved then, once they get back to their home country next year I'm sure they'll be getting them again! They're here on a 3 year contract with our company, they've worked for our parent company for about 20 years.

My little floofs are doing so well 🥰😊

Oh how wonderful! It's always nice when visitors come over to hold the chickens and the birds behave. Nobody needs panicked, wings in your face birds. Mine are pretty good with being held, I hold them so much the are used to it. They tolerate being pet by strangers too. I am sure your old boss will be thinking about chickens today! :D

This morning I think I helped Chonkers meet a personal goal. It's dark now when I go out to feed, and this morning, no body had crowed yet when I went out. I turned on the lights for the little silkies so after a few stretches and wing flaps, Chonkers was able to the first crower of the day! He's never been able to beat Fizz Bang to the first crow before, I am very proud of my little guy 😊

Go Chonkers, GO!! 🐓 ❤ Hopefully his crowing doesn't put Fizz Bang in a bad mood. :D

For better or worse, I don't know. We went to work just after it got light out and got home from work after dark. So, if Fizzy was extra bad, I wouldn't know 🤣

This morning I got out and turned the porch light on before it got light out, Chonkers got up and was in the middle of his stretching and flapping routine, and Nu crowed from in the coop 😎

Last night it was 18, on these cold night Fizz Bang has been squeezing through a hole the dog dug to get under the one coop into the feed area to sleep. In the morning, I open the door, go about feeding, he pops out, I shut the door as I wrap up chores, it's a pretty good routine.

Here is Fizzy in his cozy digs. It's actually not a bad find for him, it's very protected from the elements.

Awww.... there's Fizz. :love He looks so sweet and innocent there, doesn't he? They have a way of winning back over your heart even after being a big pain in the behind! Glad to hear you both are on good terms. 💞

He's been behaving, I think the hormones have slacked off, plus he's molting so he's a little bashful without his streaming tail feathers. It's pretty amazing to me thay he figured out there was space under the coop and now does it on purpose when it's cold. We had a few warmer nights and he stayed out, perched on the top of the run as usual. But when it's windy or cold, he's under the coop in the hidey hole.

This morning Storm has confirmed he is indeed a cockerel with a couple reasonably well performed little crows.

I had already figured he was a cockerel, but this eliminates all hope of a manly pullet. 🤣

Glad to hear Fizz is behaving! The Molting hormones or the lack of, will definitely tame them down. At least now you will get a winter break from the Bomb that Fizz is. Chickens are pretty smart, especially the Roosters, they have to be able to think and reason. Makes total sense he would find himself a cubby hole and keep it a secret. :D

Ooh, Busted Storm!! He is SO handsome!!! :love I love his color, very nice shape in his conformation. Pretty eyes too. 👀

Give your Silkie crew some lovin' for me! 💖
