silkie sexing

I'm jealous you get to keep so many girls! I think I'm going to take my parents 2 barred rock and a speckled Sussex home to keep my little showgirl company. Then I'm looking for a silkie and have to stop the chicken math! I was planning on just 2 silkies to go with the calico, but somehow was convinced to take the big girls so my dad has less chores!

Hey everyone! I was wondering if y'all could guess what the sex of my silkies are? It was rather hard to get a picture of them since they like to play and run around, not be held so excuse my hands. They are about 4 months old now. Sorry if you can't tell fully

ALSO I give them haircuts every few weeks because they start to not be able to see well and become slower than the others (so that's why some of their fronts look odd, lol). I don't know if that's 100% okay to do but I feel bad so I cut around their eyes so they can play around and be fast like everyone else

I would say that 2&4 are pullets but if you are cutting the crest feathers that makes it a little difficult because the roundness of the crest is one of the indicators. Also your silkies have star combs , this makes sexing a little more difficult .

Sorry! At least I tried to see if I could get an answer lol. I only cut 3, 2, & 6's hair but oh well.

Star combs make it more difficult? Huh, didn't know that.

Can anyone explain to me why #5 chicken doesn't have any fluff on their head? They have never grown any there even since a little chick...

If you cut 6 that would explain the shape in the crest and I would be leaning towards pullet on that one. #5 looks like a Silkie cross.

My chicks are around 6 1/2 weeks old. The little gray is slightly younger. I know this is early to tell but two I am starting to suspect are roo-ish. But I've only been doing chickens for the last four months and these are my first silkies.

"Carrot" All gray with orange feathering accents. In the sun it looks more orangey lol. Always sits right down when you pick it up but is slightly larger than the others.

"Morning Glory" The one with the wonky feather that sticks out

"Summer" looks like Morning Glory but has a brown back instead of orange

"Fuzz Ball" She's 4-5 weeks old

Carrot, Morning Glory, Summer, Fuzz ball in front. It's possible I mixed the two yellow ones up this photo lol, they are looking more and more alike at a quick glance unless you check the back and funky feather. But looking at the head feathers I think that's the correct order

Carrot, Morning Glory, Fuzz Ball, blurry Summer.

A little young yet, but adorable babies and your little one looks to be in her element with them.
