silkie sexing

@shortgrass
Any guesses on the third white one? The last pics I took didn't turn out but let me know and I can try to get some more today or tomorrow. It doesn't seem to have a comb and had what I thought was a nice even crest but in the last week or two I swear I am seeing the beginnings of streamers but maybe I'm imagining it.

Lol and thanks :) I love seeing everyone else's silkies and you know what may ratio means.... I need to get more so I have more pullets lol

Oddly enough my buff one (now named Gilligan) still refuses to act anything like a roo lol

Any clue why my pullets(at least they seem like they do to me) hold their tails up like the roos? Based on how they hold their tails at one point I was like oh gosh! I have six roos. Just seems like other pullets I see on here hold them lower.

Also any advice on what to do about their poofs blocking their sight? My splash, "Lovey" and partridge, "Kramer" both have problems with this and they lose the flock sometimes. Can I gently/carefully trim a bit around their eyes?

Any color ideas? I have a red partridge one already and this one looks nothing like it it's some type of partridge or calico what do yall think? I have 2 of the same color

I would love some educated guesses with my black and white silkies. I have only had them for a week and the lady I purchased them from said they were 5-8 weeks of age. Due to awkward looking stage I would guess closer to 6 weeks.

Hi all, and @shortgrass

Just a couple of questions and I got some pics of the white one I'm still not sure on. But first my questions. The little buff one is still giving me fits I know you said for sure that Ginger was Gilligan, but I'm still just not seeing it. And I have news, well sort of. The silkie hatch I did also had two other bantams in it a self blue oegb and a bantam barred Cochin. Well they're 21 weeks now and we got our first egg from the group. The next day we got our second egg(that was yesterday and the day before). No egg yet today. Well I'm thinking it's probably the cochin who's started laying but idk for sure.
Anyway I wanted to mention that the known roos have been showing off for the buff. I've never seen my other roos dance for each other before like they would for a hen. Has anyone else?

The one in the foreground of both pictures is the one in question that I have been thinking is a pullet but I swear it is getting streamers now. It doesn't seem to have comb development. Please let me know what you think or if you need more pictures. Thanks :)

Hi Chickendreams24.

I can't tell for sure on the front white silkie, but I don't really see any streamers. But, the one in back has some definite streamers. That was the really the only way I could tell on all mine. But 18 weeks almost all of my roos started crowing. There was one hold out that waited until I got rid of most of the other roos before he sounded off. They are 20 weeks now and I think the rest are girls.

Congrats on the first couple of eggs!

Good luck!

@Jessimom
Thanks for your response hopefully I'll learn soon as like I said they're 21 weeks idk how they got so old already I have a 19 week old kitten I hand raised from a day old when she was orphaned and she's just so very grown up she barely looks like a kitten anymore. Do your roos dance for each other? Or did they?
Well I will say it'd be nice to have another pullet so I hope the white is a girl. The buff too BC I think she would be a wonderful little Momma and her babies would be darling as she follows me around like a puppy dog. Either way the buff is staying but I may not keep all three whites I'm undecided about that. A friend's father tried to buy our partridge roo(4$) but they didn't offer me enough ;) truth be told I think he's stunning and would like to see some of his babies before I sell him if I do sell him. I'm hoping the buff is a pullet because I would love to see their chicks.

Also the one in the back is Cotton and he's hilarious. He was our second to mature and start crowing and yesterday I saw him successfully mount our bantam barred Cochin pullet before he fell off. Lol poor boy his ego was so bruised. Better than a couple of our non silkies roos' first trys. They're still in the don't know what the heck they're doing grab the pullets by the combs and hang on stage. It's a hard thing for me to watch. And I'll admit sometimes I do step in when the girls are really screaming.

Also thank you on the congratulations :) I don't really care who's egg it is kinda wish I knew though. I'm just surprised how big it was for a first bantam egg. It was bigger than some of our lfs first egg.

Well, on Ginger/Gilligan... If a roo is dancing and not fighting for her/him, then its a her lol... Oh they're horribly confusing lol. I had a white one that I changed my mind on daily; one day the roo and he/she would spar, then nothing; the roo didn't even act like they existed. I thought it was male based on appearance, but it never did fight back. My question was answered when he /SHE laid an egg :p

Turns out, one was bearded and one was not, leading me to think I had an extra male..

The reason for THAT story was your white silkies in question remind me of my white ones. One looked different and I was sure I saw streamers; turns out they're just pokier because she's bearded.

The white ones in your pics actually BOTH look pullet right there; I dint see any comb or wattles starting... I would think we'd be seeing them by now; if theyre at maturity by 6 months, and no combs, no comb is going to shoot up now. ;)

Edit* wow lots of grammatical errors :p
