silkie sexing

Hi this one is still very young to really say for certain but If I were to take a guess I would say male. Do you see how the crest swoops backward? That is a male trait. However because your bird is so young the crest can still change. Keep a eye on this one and as it ages if it continues to have a crest like that that swoops backward then it is male. You really can't make a solid guess until they are about three or four months old because the bird will change so much between now and then. But females generally have a round Crest while males will swoop toward the back. So if this bird continues to have that swept back look by that age then it's likely male. But because it's so young it still might have a chance for the crest to round out. But as it looks now I'd say male. Check back in a couple months when it's a little older to know for certain. But that swooped back crest is definitely a male trait. See if he changes in a couple months. But if I had to guess now, I'd say male. Hope this helps and best wishes. Keep in mind he will be changing a lot in the next couple of months so this is just a preliminary guess. I'd love to see him in a few months to see if his crest rounded out. He sure is cute! Best of luck.

What gender do you think? Thank you for any help!

I have a female with a vaulted head that still has very a swept back looking top knot and a larger comb than most of my girls. I thought she was a roo and nearly culled her when she was younger because of this, but decided to wait and see and eventually she started laying eggs.

I know waiting is difficult, but just breath deeply and wait it out until you are certain (crowing or laying eggs).

Here's a couple of pictures of "Cupcake". She's over a year and currently brooding chicks.

thank you...will try to get good pictures of them in a couple of weeks... I have 5 silkies here to try an figure out and my daughter in law has 4 ...so we are deciding which ones to keep and which ones to sell after we figure it out. They're all adorable. We also have a 4-h child that wants a silkie pullet...but seems like they are going to get a half raised chick before they can know for sure they have a pullet :)

Ok, I know this is early, this is my smallest chick, which may not have any bearing, I am leaning towards hen, but we all know how that goes anyhow.... it carries itself pretty low compared to everyone else (have 16 of them) this is my only buff "Buffy" he/she is 4 1/2 weeks old (first pic is just a pile of them my son is holding for fun) pretty sure the white one up front is a roo, but again, who knows...)

Im not sure what to think if "Popcorn" is a Hen or Roo.... She/he is very docile and will walk up to me and "coo/talks".... I have never heard it crow and it carries itself rather "low" in comparison to my other (confirmed) Silkie Roo.... I tried to get a few shots of it front/back/side.... there are no streamers in its tail feathers and its head is rather puffy. I don't know what to think since its already almost 8 months old and still has me baffled. haha HELP PLEASE!! :)
My Popcorn is a PULLET!!!! YAY!!! Well..... actually...turning into a Hen! :) lol.... she laid her first egg today!! YAY POPCORN!!! :)

Sorry, but at 41/2 weeks it's anyone's guess.
