Grey is a very confusing color, but they are no supposed to be uniform in color.

Donna's girl is what a grey is supposed to look like. Donna McCormick is the leading breeder of the Greys.

She has some phenomenal birds

Thanks! I am so glad she posted her girl! I have kept my Ethel because she has awesome foot feathering and type but thought her color was wrong for a gray. Are the males similar in color?

I am not sure of the standard of the color but here is a link to a Gray thread where Donna McCormick posted pictures of girls and boys

Any ideas on why my silkie stopped laying? I have done quite a bit of research and know there can be a lot of causes but due to the individual circumstances I was hoping someone could help me further. I brought her home a week ago and she laid 3 eggs the first 3 days I had her, then the laying stopped. She hasn't laid in about 5 days. None of my others have laid yet, but they're old enough to start any time. I'm feeding All Flock feed since the guineas eat it too, plus some scratch, and fruit and veggie scratch. I do have grit and oyster shell available all the time. She seems well adjusted and is quite bossy toward the other hens. I don't think she seems stressed. Is she just taking a break? I want to make sure there's nothing I need to fix.

So you just got her? Birds tend to not lay when stressed, and the change in homes has likely stressed her (just as it stresses people when they move or have other life altering changes such as new job, new family members, etc.). THe eggs she laid were already far enough under development that she went ahead and laid them. Give her time to adjust and she will probably start up again in a week or so. If you are in a part of the country that is getting much shorter days, she may not lay until spring unless you give her additional light.

Thank you, yes I did just get her. She laid her first egg (well MY first egg

) within an hour of me getting her home. The next two days she laid one, then stopped. I just wanted to make sure nothing is wrong. She is active and eating and drinking, so I will just be patient. Yes, my days are getting much shorter and I am not providing much additional light. Just a dim solar light in the coop to help the girls find their way in from the run when it's getting dark out.

You might try giving them an extra hour or two of light at night or in the early morning insider their coop. A 60 watt bulb would be about right.

Mine stopped laying for a week when I moved their coop across the yard.
