Thanks! I am so glad she posted her girl! I have kept my Ethel because she has awesome foot feathering and type but thought her color was wrong for a gray. Are the males similar in color?

I am not sure of the standard of the color but here is a link to a Gray thread where Donna McCormick posted pictures of girls and boys

Thank you so much! This really helped clear up the grays for me! It definitely was not what I had pictured in my head! LOL They should have no gold leakage anywhere though, correct? Also, no penciling on the wings anywhere and if they do then that is what is considered a silver partridge??? Do I have that right or am I confusing myself again?

ok total so far 12 hatched 2 are deformed and i have 2 that died trying to hatch did a float test on the rest and looks like 2 or 3 wiggled a little but will know by tonight or tomorrow morning the first to hatch is about 4 hrs away from 24 hrs old so i will give the rest till tomorrow to hatch if not i will have to chunk. the one with the bad foot is not doing good it seems weak and tired i do not think it will make it the one with a cross beak is doing good the cross is ever so suttle and can not really tell unless you are looking at it in the face and even then you can hardly tell she or he will go into a different pen once it gets older it will not be used for breeding but for a spoiled lap chicken that can be carried and played with and maybe even watch tv with us out of 29 eggs looks like i am going to get 10 good chicks for breeding when they are older this was my last hatch for the year guess i will have to wait till next spring to hatch more i know hubby will be happy

Yes no gold leakage, no penciling. penciling would indicate silver partridge, but its more complex than that. LOL I don't even try to understand the difference between the two. Too many people lump them together and I honestly did too until recently.

Yes, the photo is in black and white.
Here is one of her in color, enjoying her retirement at age ten.

Does she have barring on her wings? I have a pullet who i've been told is gray, she came from a b/b/s. She has barring on her wings. I'd like to enter her in a show, but was wondering about the barring.

Many, many years ago, all my grays had barring/penciling in the wings. "Lilly Anne' pictured in the previous photo is 10 years old and she does have barring/penciling in her wings.
However, according to SOP, there is no mention of barring/penciling in the wings of a gray female.

quick question :)
i have 7 silkie "chicks" ( i call them "chicks" because i don't know what they are), that are 3-4 months old. my question is, is there a way to tell what their gender is at this age?

when i do a search here i get way too many threads to look at. i'm sure this is discussed OVER and OVER again!!! so, i apologize, in advance, for the repetition!!!

thank you!
