Silkie thread!

I wouldn't say that his wings are droop--they are tightly closed, which is great. However they are held too vertical for a silkie--could be his normal wing position or h could have been holding them down when the photo was snapped--you will have to watch for that. Personally if I had to choose between a tightly closed wing held too vertically and one that doesn't close tightly (slipped wing) but is horizontal, I would take the wing that closes tightly.

He has a nice short back and his comb looks goodfrom what I can tell. THe angle is such that I can;t really tell how wide he is/isn't. He looks to have been having fun playing in the mud.

Yes, in the US "the more, the better". We do trim gently around the eyes, if necessary, to facilitate vision.

Also I prefer the US type for beauty. Is why I breed in my projects towards American looking type, but they never will be accepted for exhibition contests !!
There is a great difference between US and EU Silkies.
In EU we have the the "big" Silkies arround 2,000 Kg and we have the bantam Silkie arround 0,600 Kg.
The US Silkie is just one of arround 1,200 Kg, correct ?
In Germany is NOT accepted feathers on the middle toe so also the legs are only little feathered !
Nowhere here in EU is accepted the skull knob or vaulted skull, (males not have it here only some females).

Example of a German type Silkie

Thanks Sonoran. Yes, it may be the picture and the angle that he is standing, I don't recall looking at him before and thinking he didn't hold his wings more horizontally. He has nice depth and width, very solid guy. Black eyes too, and yes, he can see!

I just got silkies this year and I was wondering if someone can answer a question about their earlobes.
Mine have these beautiful blue 'spots' for earlobes (at least that's what I'm calling them)
They look really cool. I'm wondering how these are supposed to look as far as show quality. I'm not planning on showing but I'm curious.
And are they considered earlobes or something else?

I've hatched out 3 beautiful buff silkies from a fellow BYC'er....... Anyone want to take a guess on how many boys and girls in this grouping?? I think I have one boy and 2 girls and I know it's hard to tell at this time.....

Thanks and have a blessed day. Nancy

Is trimming around the eyes ok if the bird will be shown or is that just for the breeder pens?
