Silkie thread!

Right? I love it. Crazy little meanie. Lol.

As one currently dealing with two rescued severely shrink-wrapped lavender Ameraucana chicks, I'm going to avoid the hovabator in future and just stick with the Brinsea. I also have the humidity pump with mine. It does a spectacular job of holding humidity. My only complaint with the Brinsea is the lack of headroom for the chicks but a lack of headroom is MUCH better than the shrinked up mess I dealt with earlier this week. :/ (The R-Com 20 Pro is comparable to the Brinsea WITH all the extras, I believe. Doesn't the R-Com also control humidity? So price wise, they are about on par. I am a BIG fan of precisely controlled humidity .... )
The R-Com 20 Pro controls humidity, temp and turning automatically within one self contained unit. It also allows for manual settings. Price is around $675. I haven't found any posts with comments on the headroom. I'm trying to get up to speed quickly and learn as much as possible about hatching. I have read the section here on BYC about incubation/hatching. Are there any other resources you all would suggest? And...is it necessary for us to have a second incubator for the hatching?

Welp, thought I'd share an angry silkie, because I've sure never seen her this way before!!! (She's broody and I locked her out of the hen house - Mwahahahahaha!

Yes, this is a familiar sight for me. Not being locked from their nest box but going after their chicks. lol

Woo! That IS steep for the R-Com. I think the full Brinsea package with all the whistles and bells is around $500 and can likely be had for less than that with coupons and such. The R-Com is a bit bigger than the Brinsea, I think, so headroom might not be such an issue. You can absolutely do it all in 1 incubator. I started with a Hovabator before I got the Brinsea and figured it was easy to get high humidity in that thing, just not so easy to get low but not too low humidity so I figured it would be fine for hatching.
