Silkie thread!

Arg if its a splash or a paint im gonna what to keep... From the list she gave me it didnt mention, but i guess anything is possile lol ( argh and ive already decided to the 1st chick to hatch ( the one with no foot feathering) cause shes a sweetheart and crys for me... My husbands really attached to her too.

I have a couple of dozen silkies. I'm hatching everything from two hens when they aren't broody. I have mostly juveniles. I also have 3 PQ broodies. I have BBS and working toward a pen of lavender and a pen of porcelain. I still only have the one partridge girl. :(  I think I might have some fun and breed her to my beautiful porcelain cockerel. (He's not mature yet)  If anyone thinks that's a terrible mistake, please let me know! I know I'm mixing a bunch of genes there.

I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of followup questions...do you hatch and sell year round, do you find it easier to sell chicks vs juveniles and how do you get the word out to potential buyers?

Can anyone else who breeds/sells please also comment on their tips and tricks?

I sell most of my babies which more than pays for my chicken expenses and DH likes that. :)
Thank you, my friend, for yet another good point! I will have to mention (and remind) DH of that.

My problem is I'm not sure which ones to sell because they are all so stinking cute! And, too early to deterine gender, let alone PQ, BQ or SQ after hatch.

I'm trying to sell Cali-ko on Craigslist right now for $25. He has red leakage on his wings so I don't want him in my BBS breeding program. He would make a great pet or great rooster if someone had a "fun color" pen. I'm hoping to make some cash with him to buy feed next week. He is from SQ parents, but I had no idea how much to sell him for as a 3 month old cockerel. Any ideas? Is $25 reasonable or too much?

Here is a side shot of Cali-ko, ejoying some cold treats yesterday:

Yes, I hatch and sell year round but I live in a very silkie deprived area so that makes it easier. I get the most results from craigslist but also get a lot of inquiries from my website. Chicks are probably the easiest to sell. I hope to try shipping in late fall. I'm raising several quality juveniles that I hope will become SQ and I can't keep them all! :) I am not yet NPIP but my son-in-law is a veterinarian so I'm hoping to be able to get any vaccinations done that are required by different states. I am recovering from back surgery but if all goes well, I hope to show this fall. Big adventures await!!

I listed a splash cockerel of about the same quality that I wasn't too happy with his leg feathering. He was about that age. I had him for $20 and he sold in about two days so I think you are at least at a good starting point. Cockerels can be tough. I have given several pet quality ones away.
