Yes, I hatch and sell year round but I live in a very silkie deprived area so that makes it easier. I get the most results from craigslist but also get a lot of inquiries from my website. Chicks are probably the easiest to sell. I hope to try shipping in late fall. I'm raising several quality juveniles that I hope will become SQ and I can't keep them all!I am not yet NPIP but my son-in-law is a veterinarian so I'm hoping to be able to get any vaccinations done that are required by different states. I am recovering from back surgery but if all goes well, I hope to show this fall. Big adventures await!!
Yay!! I have more to go in on next Wednesday, too!! We can be biting our nails together...How fun! I have some silkie/showgirls that will go into lock down next Tues.![]()
Thank you!! Now, I feel like a real member of this special club!!Sooooo happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()

Here's an update on my blue splash..peep knows her by now.And I have a white one that I am crossing fingers to be a girl.![]()
I got brave and trimmed her eye area..man she was glad to be able to see! lol..
Another angle. She is one of the sweetest birds I have. She doesn't mind me putting in
other babies in there as a grow out pen..hoping this will help when she and another Silkie or showgirl has babies at the same time, they will hopefully be used to other babies being in there.
My white girl...I hope it's a girl. A little Wellie
There she is in the back with all her buddies..girl buddies.![]()
I would love to get photos but I'm practically bed-ridden still. I am missing all their grow up time! My husband brings me a couple to love on every couple of days but he is overwhelmed as he works full time, takes care of me full time, takes care of this ranch full time, and doing all my work full time! I just don't know how he keeps going! He's really kind of amazing. I'm soooo blessed! Thanks for sharing! If possible, could you share some pics of the juveniles that may become SQ? It would be so helpful for those of us who don't yet know quite what to look for when purchasing stock. And best wishes for a good recovery from surgery. Tina G.

Thanks, Peep!Awwww! Just beautiful, Hawkeye!!
Lucky you to get eggs that are close! You don't have to wait to load them in. Just be sure your temps are on, and you're fine. No, they weren't shipped. I'm fortunate enough to live close to an excellent breeder. Plus, I'm way too cheap to take a chance on shipped eggs! They rode about 45 minutes in the car, so I figured them resting while the bator is warming would be good enough. Should I let them sit a little longer?
No idea on that one! Might as well give it a try and see? I wonder if you would get some crazy AOV colors or if they would all be mostly recognized colors? Never know!I have a couple of dozen silkies. I'm hatching everything from two hens when they aren't broody. I have mostly juveniles. I also have 3 PQ broodies. I have BBS and working toward a pen of lavender and a pen of porcelain. I still only have the one partridge girl.I think I might have some fun and breed her to my beautiful porcelain cockerel. (He's not mature yet) If anyone thinks that's a terrible mistake, please let me know! I know I'm mixing a bunch of genes there.
We have a Kansas facebook poultry swap group here. There are hundreds of people on it. You might want to search for a FB poultry swap that is in your state, too! I also use CraigsList. At this point, I am still not NPIP, and so I can not ship. But I will be soon!I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of followup questions...do you hatch and sell year round, do you find it easier to sell chicks vs juveniles and how do you get the word out to potential buyers?
Can anyone else who breeds/sells please also comment on their tips and tricks?
Tina G.
I sold some pet quality roosters last week for $5 a piece. Lucky to get that, even. Usually you have to give them away. Roosters are super hard to get rid of! And I think they were going to eat them... LOL!!I listed a splash cockerel of about the same quality that I wasn't too happy with his leg feathering. He was about that age. I had him for $20 and he sold in about two days so I think you are at least at a good starting point. Cockerels can be tough. I have given several pet quality ones away.
Hope you continue to feel better Peep! I didn't realize you were still so laid up! I was thinking you were getting around by now. What was I thinking?! I hope you are feeling good enough to get to some shows. You are going to LOVE it!!I would love to get photos but I'm practically bed-ridden still. I am missing all their grow up time! Thanks! I thought I would be doing great by now, but after talking to some other people who have had it, I see I was overly optimistic. Thanks, Peep!
