Hi I live in west TN. My son is wanting to show silkies. Is there anyone around this area on here that raises and sells them for show?
White chicks come out yellow, splash come out white.how do u tell the difference between white and splash chicks?????
Congrats! You won't regret having Silkies.Looking at all these silkies pictures has got me so excited to get ours! My daughter is in 4h and will be showing them at the fair. We ordered 2 white, 2 blue and 2 buff. I sure hope we don't end up with all Roos!![]()
Quote: Not necessarily. Many white chicks are white or silvery, and splash can be pale bluish with a yellowish cast. Splash chicks often have some variation in colouring; white chicks are usually pretty solid coloured.
ah okay. Not necessarily. Many white chicks are white or silvery, and splash can be pale bluish with a yellowish cast. Splash chicks often have some variation in colouring; white chicks are usually pretty solid coloured.
So are genetics different in whites that come out yellow than whites that come out white? Like yellows are recessive white and whites are dominant white?ah okay.
Your chicks are just beautiful!! I do believe your splash is blue though. I had a newborn lame chick once that had an abscess on the bottom of it's foot. I kept an eye on it and it resolved on it's own. I could not even guess what caused it.My Catdance eggs started hatching on day 19 and today is day 21 and they are still coming! Nine out, one still in the bator with two pipped eggs. Three still unpipped. They are so wonderful. I've waited a long time and it was so worth it. My babies are just a day or less old in these pictures.
I kept the eggs seperated at lock down so I could mark them with food coloring. Some of the babies kind of got it all over their faces. Silly goofs.
Here they are! I am in love love love.![]()
The Partridge are gorgeous and look different from one another.
The littlest chick was the first to pip on the 19th but took over 28 hours to hatch. One foot has curled toes so I taped it right away with a Hello Kitty bandaid. It works very well for me and the chick. The little doot got it's face all in the food coloring.
The difference in coloring on the two Blue Splash had me perplexed.
The two Porcelains are out of two different pens.
The Lavender is stunning in color. Love it! The Partridge is beautiful too. The Paint has the lightest skin and comb. Very white down. I can't wait to see what it developes like.
I know hens do this sort of stuff also. I just can't remember at what age they stop.
I love their names.![]()
