Silkie thread!

Hey y'all! I'm new to byc and this thread (obviously). I current have 1 white silkie hen and 1 black silkie roo and we are getting 6 chicks from a breeder in a few weeks.
I have a question for those of you who are more experienced with silkies (and chickens in general). My silkie hen that we've had for about 3 months just started laying 2 weeks ago. I was under the impression that silkies were broody, but this won't sit! She'll lay her egg in a shallow whole/deep indentation, kick a little dirt around it and never goes back! I left one egg out there for 3 days and she did was roll it around and peck it. Is this normal? Or is she maybe just a young hen? We bought her and some cornish from a guy on craigslist but he didn't tell us her age and I totally didn't think to ask.

Any chance this could be a paint? The girl I bought it from said she has blue, black, and splash silkies and she doesn't know who's egg it was.

There is no way to get a paint silkie without a paint parent, unless you're Judy, and starting a new color blue, black, and splash pens tend to make blue, black, or splash babies. Is it possible she had some partridge chicks in there too?

while silkies have the reputation of being broody, they certainly don't have to. Maybe she is young, maybe the eggs aren't fertile, or she simply doesn't feel like it. There are a few reasons a bird won't go broody. Good luck though! I hope she decides to lay for you soon!

I think she's jealous haha! She doesn't really know what to make of her, and she will leave her alone, then go over her and peck her (just lightly). Cleo tried to get under her at one point and ice kicked her out

literally she kicked her behind her! But they seem to get along okay. I won't be putting Cleo outside with ice alone though until she is older.

They'll get along just fine sooner or later. They all do.
That little chick is going to grow on Ice and she'll be a happy little girl. Or maybe she'll think of Cleo as an annoying little sister.

Holy bantams batman! I've only been gone a day, and there are 4 pages of posts! This isn't an important post, but am I hearing things or do silkies sound like R2D2? They look like a tribble and sound like R2D2. That has to be a sci fi fans dream, lol. Anyway I have started calling my fluffies beep boops. Thats the sound they make. Hope everyone had a good day!

I was just going to say that my little Marbles is ALWAYS chatting. To herself maybe? Just a quiet little peep peep peep. All the time. Especially when her head it in the food bin. Which it is ALWAYS in the food bin!

I have one that goes broody frequently. She usually goes broody every other month approximately. You may have to wait longer esp if she jsut started laying 2 weeks ago.

My Silkies just arrived this morning! It's a cold day here in Oklahoma so I'm a little worried about them! Everyone seems to be doing just fine though any tips or helpful info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello- hoping you pros out there can give me an idea what this is. It's a dry, crusty spot. I never saw it raw, or anything to scab over. Have never seen any bullying, and this is one of the bigger chicks. I've noticed a little spot on one of my others in the exact same space... Thanks- Pam
