Hello- hoping you pros out there can give me an idea what this is. It's a dry, crusty spot. I never saw it raw, or anything to scab over. Have never seen any bullying, and this is one of the bigger chicks. I've noticed a little spot on one of my others in the exact same space... Thanks- Pam
Also, it's not poop.
I have no idea what that is. My best guess would have been an old sore but you said you've never seen it raw... I hope someone will have an idea what this is?Hello- hoping you pros out there can give me an idea what this is. It's a dry, crusty spot. I never saw it raw, or anything to scab over. Wow! What a hairdo!!
How old are they?
Chickens go broody on their own schedule, not yours. However, it would be rare for a pullet to go broody after laying for only two weeks. It would be kind of like expecting an 11 year old human girl who has just gotten her period to feel like her biological clock is ticking and that she needs to get pregnant right away, or it will be too late for her. Give your pullet time to grow up and get used to laying.Hey y'all! I'm new to byc and this thread (obviously). I current have 1 white silkie hen and 1 black silkie roo and we are getting 6 chicks from a breeder in a few weeks.
I have a question for those of you who are more experienced with silkies (and chickens in general). My silkie hen that we've had for about 3 months just started laying 2 weeks ago. I was under the impression that silkies were broody, but this won't sit! She'll lay her egg in a shallow whole/deep indentation, kick a little dirt around it and never goes back! I left one egg out there for 3 days and she did was roll it around and peck it. Is this normal? Or is she maybe just a young hen? We bought her and some cornish from a guy on craigslist but he didn't tell us her age and I totally didn't think to ask.
Mine are 2.5 mths. I know its a little early, but I reall need to get rid of some chickens. I went over board when they started coming in and have way way to many. lol I guess that never happens to anyone.
Hey there Cubbysan I am just south of you in Peculiar Mo. I have three 14 week old and not heard one crow yet... I have two that are spikey and one that has a well rounded crest...I just had four of my eight 11 week olds crow this morning. I knew two of them started a few days ago, and this morning two others joined the, Hoping that is it! Three of the chicks are bigger, heavier and more solid than the others, if that is any help and two of them do have spikes going down the back of their heads.
Hi Neighbor! I see you post a lot on the Missouri thread, I'll have to go over there too. Hope you find out soon.Hey there Cubbysan I am just south of you in Peculiar Mo. I have three 14 week old and not heard one crow yet... I have two that are spikey and one that has a well rounded crest...
