Silkie thread!

Yes they are long feathers on his head. i think its a boy too! o well better luck next time i suppose :( Y
Is my silkie a boy?? He was recently found crowing but I was wondering if hens can crow? Thanks
Yes, hens CAN crow. How old is it? Take a good look at the comb - is it what is making the crest part so far to the sides? Also - are those longer feathers coming out the top of its head? It looks "boyish" to me...

It's been quite a while since I've posted on here. I don't have any new silkie pics at the moment, but I should soon, I have 4 chicks growing up right now, I'll update on their progress. Also, lo and behold, one of my girls started laying again last week. I've been without silkie eggs for almost 5 weeks..

I do have a picture of two more silkie/oegb cross chicks. The mother of the orangish chick is 7 years old, the more yellow chick's mother is 5 years old. And their father, my silkie, is about 8 months

Those are just too dang cute! Get another picture with a quarter in front of them, because I bet people do not realize how tiny those actually are (I have one OEGB.. my goodness he is small!)

Glad to hear you are getting eggs again, mine have all quit while its hot - and they are all broody or watching chicks..

I do have this picture comparing one to a pure silkie chick--which are pretty small themselves as well!

For the longest time all I kept was OEGB. They are so hardy and have the best personality for their tiny size. I've had many, many birds hatched by my little old ladies (I have 3 I kept, one 7 year old and her two 5 year old daughters, they still lay and hatch for me!).
And out of my adult silkies, 4 are sharing 5 chicks. Silly broody girls. My rooster gets in on it too, mothering the chicks like he's a broody hen!

The light one looks like a frizzled silkie! Is she?
Supposedly the light one is a frizzle (5 toes white skin) the other a sizzle (black skin 5 toes...there are rumors Mama may have been a show girl) The breeder had a beautiful orange frizzle but I wanted a she not a definite he and he was a rooster.

Neither are sizzles. They both look like possible frizzled silkies. One with light skin.

They are adorable :)
