Silkie thread!

Help! I am really desperate for silkie eggs! I recently had my first fox attack which took my entire flock except one hen. I was working on making an all silkie flock, but now I am just left with one mix breed hen. My incubator can only hold seven eggs so this will make it difficult to repopulate my flock. Of course, fullgrown silkies or silkie chicks would be ideal, but I cannot seem to find any for sale anywhere, especially since I want a variety of colors. If anyone is willing to ship eggs or chicks or chickens, please let me know! I need buff, lavender, porcelain, paint, and splash at least. Thanks to anyone who has some for sale!

My poor silkie pullet after last nights rain.

I bought 2 silkies at 4 months. One is white and one is partridge. The white one doesn't like to be held and prefers to perch on my arm. She doesn't walk around as much as the partridge and seems to keep her body lower to the ground. I checked for leg diseases or injuries and there were none. Is this normal?

I would suggest you go look at the pictures on the Silkie Showing and Breeding thread. The correctly positioned bird is one that keeps its chest low to the ground - so it sounds like the White one is closer to the correct stance. However - if she can't see - perhaps that is why she doesn't like to walk around. I have a bird with very good stance - and she likes to walk and scratch all over the place. She has just finished brooding a batch of chicks and is molting - so she can see very well right now...

How do I help her see?

If I trim their feathers will they grow back

Yes, if you trim their feathers they will grow back at their next molt. You will not want to trim them if you are going to show them - but otherwise go ahead and trim them. Be careful around their eyes - use children's safety scissors or something without sharp points. Most birds to not like you messing around their heads - so make sure they can't hurt themselves.

The ones that will need to be trimmed are the ones that stop them from seeing out - so in front of their eyes. You can trim their head poof (crests) if you want to - but I don't think they look up much anyway.
