Silkie thread!

What does everyone on here do with unwanted rooster??

I find that so long as I keep my breeds separated and pure that I can sell them or rehome them. I just sent 2 x boys across bass strait for $50 each. If you keep good quality birds you shouldn't have too much trouble re homing them. I have a lady that takes my unwanted dual purpose breeds for the pot. She and her family would prefer to eat my healthy , well cared for birds than those in the supermarket. Nothing wrong with that. Aggressive Roos get no reprieve.
We have a local chef that says that silkie meat is very ' silky ' funny that. Can't bring myself to send the little guys off and so far I haven't had to. The Asians love them!

I have a problem guys. Grain mites.

Bought bag of feed and it has grainmites. The bag was in my house and ive fed chick's who stay in my room and adults outside. What do i do? Help! Never had this happen before.

I sell eggs( as you know ) , day old chicks , ( then the gamble on sex is not mine ) and any spare Roos I will advertise at about 5 months , once I'm absolutely sure it is in fact a roo.
My last little bearded black had me guessing right up till the time I saw the roo mounting her.
She has a swoosh back hairdo just like a roo.
I have a mixed pen where wilkies are welcome . I am lucky that on our acreage we can keep as many noisy little Roos as we like. I've only had one conflict between a gold laced Wyandotte and a buff sussex and that didn't end well.

Okay...what's a wilkie?

It's just something I made up. A cross between a silkie and a Wyandotte .
