Coons are the worst I had one for three years killing my silkies it took that long to catch the sucker.

I know she was so cute but after dealing and looking at what one of these can do to ones beloved flock. It makes you hate them and I understand they are only doing what nature intended them to do but I have to protect my chickens because they can not do it themselves and for me this is how it had to be done.

i bought a i think half grown trio, as were maybe half size of other pens of semi adults, got them home, and theyre already huge compared to my bantams, and slightly bigger if not already same size as my games. im not sure i want that large of foul. they are seeming top quality, healthy, and not messy at all (was worried white would never stay clean), just would prefer pair, smaller, black bantams with less facial fluff.. they were from a breeder, who was super helpful etc, so decided to try them out (and felt bad for the pullet left by herself, figuring people local on here are always looking for good silkies), but just wonder if they are as big as seem, or do i specifically have to look for bantam silkies, as was understanding they were a true bantam anyway to mostly. ??? any comparative pics of sizes?

I'm so sorry! Coons are amazingly good at getting into places we think are safe. You are not a bad mommie... but unfortunately a wiser one. Anyone who hasn't lost a chicken to a coon either has their flock in the equivalent of Fort Knox or is very, very lucky. I feel for you! Hugs!

Thank you so much for your kind words that what am building right now a Fort Knox!

what a nightmare! so sorry you lost your chicks, hope that doesnt happen again.

I understand what your saying but if I do that then the problem becomes someone elses. The coon ate all my baby silkies all 18, I will shoot that one and the ones to come. My girls and my chicks can't protect themselves and that's my job. Two days ago my husband came across two small coons and he said o there so cute and I agree. Then the next day being today that all my silkie where killed, gone just one single puff ball of a silkie's tale was left. Now am building a Fort Konx. All my coops r Fort Konx but that one. I broke my ankle a couple a wks ago and thats what was stopping me but am doing well and back up.
