Silkie thread!

Was sick today so I went out to visit the babies for pick-me-up cuddles.

Crix in mid-molt...Never thought I'd prefer bearded men.

After a while everyone started to get a little wild.

Dolly playing keep-away.

After she decided to make off with the camara I called it a day.

There are a few decent shows on the coast here, but they can be so far away from each other! I'd trade with you if I could...I never take advantage of the best ones! It could take hours to get to the best, and then to drive back after a few hours? Being a junior in high school and an exhibitor all at one time can be hard. But hey, you want to trade weather while we're at it?

Ideally, so would I, but until I can get some help to get my 15x20' shed converted, I need something simple and easy enough for me to build. I was thinking of it being off the ground too. Is this a bad idea? Seeing as how their eyes seem to get covered up some what, do they do well with ramps/ladders at all?

Mine will NOT do a ramp still! It's driving me crazy since my two biggest coops are the style where they have to use a ramp to get into the coop.

Put the food up where they have to use a ramp to get to it

They will learn.

NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So.... I need to get pics of my daughters silkies. She has a partridge pair. I am having issues. I had put them in with my other layers... its only 5 layers in a plenty big enough coop. They get along great. The roo is fine, but her hen can't walk up the ramp. So.... I am going to get a new coop and I am going to have it for her silkies and perhaps another bantam of sorts.... for her show birds. My yard isn't huge... I love that my one coop is a tractor... its a BIG tractor, but I can move it every week with the help of the man that mows my lawn and my lawn stays nice. We let them all free range most of the time, but mornings sometimes afternoons they are up . This new one I was thinking some kinda little house or something. I am not sure. If you could buy or build a small something to house your silkies... maybe 6 birds at most.... what you would buy/build??? Obviously it can't be off the ground like my current one as the ramp is an issue.... The nesting boxes low, etc. It needs to be able to have a heat lamp in winter and perhaps a fan in summer. Link me up, please!

Help!

Yes you can, personally I wouldn't for a long period of time though.

I have some birds on wire and some not, and some who have a choice. Of the ones who have a choice, they typically spend as much time on the wire as off it. FWIW, smaller openings tend to have less inpact on foot wear and tear, and plastic "wire" seems like it should be more comfortable. Home Depot and Lowes both carry a roll of 3x15 plastic "hardware cloth" with 1/2" openings.
