I can understand the pros for wire but I've seen majorly torn up foot feathers from being on wire for too long. Also seem to recall it's hard on their feet? idk If it works for you that's awesome

i keep my feather footed birds on wire so feathers dont get broken

Wire on the sides of cages/pens are more likely to tear up foot feathering than is wire that they walk on. Better to cover the bottom few inches on cage/pen/coop sides with something solid and smooth.

MORE CHICK COLOR QUESTIONS

My broody hatched seven chicks about ten days ago. I'm pretty sure the parents are my 'dark' blue silkie hen and roo. On the first day I was thinking there were 2 Splash, 3 Blue and 2 Black. But the Blues and Blacks keep getting lighter and lighter and I'm wondering if I have three that are a lighter blue and two that are dark blue. Any thoughts from the pics below?

I'm attaching pictures of the chicks from when the were just a day or two old and from today (they are now about 1 1/2 weeks old).

where ever you buy your feed. It will be by the bird seed. Do not feed it to white birds it can cause some feather discoloration. they need the shelled version.

In case anyone is interested I am selling my white silkie flock. four pairs total. I want to concentrate on my cuckoo program. I just listed them on the auction forum.

Mine will NOT do a ramp still! It's driving me crazy since my two biggest coops are the style where they have to use a ramp to get into the coop.

Put the food up where they have to use a ramp to get to it

They will learn.

So put the food in the coop and the water in the run with them where they like to hang out 24/7? Maybe sprinkle going up the ramp so they get the idea? Right now I'm either leaving them in the run or going outside to pick them up by hand.

Mine will do a 2ft ramp as long as it isn't steep. I have one coop I use that has a long ramp and im lucky if I get one or two to use it. It also helps to have a light up in the coop so they know where to go.

The paler Blues and Splashes. (and wouldn't I just love one of those Painted silkies). I'm pretty sure I've finally got a couple of Splashes in my last hatch, but not sure I'll ever have one of those lovely crystal Blues like you see at the shows.
