I think the black rat snakes are in breeding mode because there has been alot I'v already seen this year. Not here this is the 1st I have seen around the chickens. I have been told by alot of friends and family they have killed or seen ALOT this year already. We see alot of wild life here. We even have rattle snakes....Timber rattlers and they are the worse.
But I love where I live its not everyday when you can stand in your yard and do this...
Anyone know of a way to catch a snake so they can be disposed of? I have seen a rather large one twice by my pond but as soon as I see it, off it goes into the water. I have a couple of duck sitting nests and worry about them taking the ducklings to the pond once they hatch. I also worry about my dogs which love to go down by the pond and try and catch frogs since it looks like it could possibly be a copperhead which are poisonous.

Go to Lowes and get some wildlife netting. It's only $14 for a 100' roll. Cut a few feet off and bunch it up and place it on the ground where the snake might come and it will get tangled up and won't be able to free itself.

OK maybe I don't miss Kentucky as much as I thought lol
Don't you have rattlers there in TX. I know we do here in NW TN. Along with the water moccosins and cotton mouth. Then there are the non venomus snakes like chicken snakes etc.
I don't like snakes of any kind. All are dangerous to me. They can make me have a heart attack.
The only good snake is a dead snake. My cat takes care of the mouse population and she don't steal eggs or bother the chickens or chicks. I'd rather have her than a snake anyday.
Dont forget about copperheads.....i almost got bit by a baby weeding my garden by hand..it was right where I grabbed a handfull of weeds and curled up ready to strike....needless to say I stopped weeding and just had husband weedeat it all....
I finally got a decent picture of one of my silkies! This is Sascha, my white silkie. I am assuming she is a girl... I am HOPING she is a girl. She was hatched March 12, so she was 3 months old yesterday. I hatched her from eggs I bought at Thistledown Farm in Davis, California (I had EXCELLENT hatch rates from both her silkie and d'uccle eggs, but I picked them up in person and did not have them shipped). If she turns out to be a cockerel, her name will be changed to Sebastian. She had a solid black beak when she first hatched, but it has yellowed over time. She has been slower to feather in and is about half the size of the other 3 silkies (different colors) that hatched at the same time.
I will try to get pictures of Roberto, Preston, and Honey (my other 3 silkies--a cuckoo, a partridge, and an isabel, respectively).
Poor Sascha always has a poopy butt. We are forever cleaning danglies off her delicate fuzzybutt feathers.

Wow! The pics with the fawn are pretty darned special.
Oh yes very rare these two cuties went to fish and wildlife they were in bad shape when we found them. The little one must have only been hours old and the heat had taken its toll on them.
