Silkie is dark meat, I'm pretty sure. So if you like dark meat, ding ding! If you don't, I suggest different birds for meat.

Yes you would need quite a few to make a meal. I know a Dutch guy that eats them , he says the meat is very sweet.

I have seven, 9 wk old silkies from my last silkie hatch. They are all doing great and very healthy. But one of them is extremely small. (My gut thinks it's a girl). She is about half the size now of her siblings. I can tell, especially when I hold her and feel how light she is. She looks like a 5 week old! She has BIG personality and is not on the bottom of the pecking order, more near the top. Her crop is full every night when I check her. Is she just very petite? Any ideas or experiences?

Well I know that silkies come in different sizes. The girls are smaller most of the time. I have a runtish hen right now but she was sick as a chick and required tube feedings. It may have been cocci, I don't know.

Hello silkie experts. ..please can anyone help with my purchase at the weekend. The above pair in the pic were bought from a local fair. They were sold as 3 week old silkie chicks. I have no experience of this breed and was hoping for some advice on what colour they will turn out and if you think they really are 3 weeks old, they seem very small though I am used to large fowl. Advice gratefully received! !
