Silkie thread!

My dilemma is trying to bathe my Silkies :-/ How do I go about washing their heads? I'm afraid they'll drown!! Can anyone give me some hints on bathing and general care of these beautiful birds..i.e: what soaps are safest, can they get sick from bathing, do I have to completely dry them after a bath, etc.. Help!! Thanx my fowl friends..lol

Unless doing it for a show, can I ask why?...I find ours may get rough in the rain and mud but once it dries, they primp up right nice!
The one on right just hatched 6 babies within the last week!

Couldn't resist, just ran out and took this as she had the babies outside!

Chickens are pretty good at keeping themselves clean , by way of preening. Bathing should be kept to a minimum and only on warm days. Silkies don't fair well if they are left wet so it is best to towel dry then use a hairdryer. If you are showing , it is better to bath a few days before and keep them in a clean pen leading up to the show . This way you only need to touch up on the day. Wipe over feet , beak and wattles with a damp cloth then apply Vaseline. This link should be helpful.

I should also add that white birds often ' yellow ' naturally in the Sunshine.

When bathing my babies' heads I get my hands nice and wet and make the feathers go up in a mohawk and use baby shampoo if it actually needs washing. then use my baby nasal suction to gently spray a small spray of water on the mohawk while I hold their beak and watch their nose slits. My kids are very good in the tub and love bath time :)
