Silkie thread!

So I took the plunge today someone 15 minutes from home has a BUNCH of silkies and some show girls. He has them from new hatch to 6 weeks. I stuck with mostly older birds in the 4-6 week range but brought home one maybe 2 weeks old because only of the kids wanted a "yellow" one. Let my 6yo do the picking. From memory.

1 blue silkie
1 black showgirl
1 white sizzle silkie
1 white silkie
3 black silkies
1 random freebie that looks to be a Black Copper Maran with bare legs. I told him I had bad luck picking the Marans I bought in May all 5 were cockerels, hopefully I have better luck with this one and these silkies.

So looks like I will have two coops, one with silkies and one with the standard size egg birds.

I found him on Appleton Wisconsin area Craigslist. His normal business has to do with shipping live delicate plants so I would think he could ship.

I would link but most forums don't appreciate such links.

Hi Silkiers!

I set six eggs...my one Frizzled egg quit on me midway, grrr...have three that have hatched on day 20 and the remaining two have pipped! The last time I tried hatching a Silkie egg (an 'extree' from a Rhodebar breeder...I ended up with a Frizzled POLISH, lol!)
Finally...squeeeeeeeee!
400

I will be back after they dry as I am unsure of two's color(?)

How exciting! Can't wait to see what you got.::)

Hai everyone!! So we are 99.9% sure that Nugget (my little buff silkie shown below) is a rooster. I want to trade him for a female with a student at my school, but the student has much higher quality and better preened silkies. Unfortunately, I don't think Nugget knows how to preen himself!! His wing feathers are supper dull and scraggly. Is there any way I could Preen them by hand? Or are his wing feathers a lost cause until he figures it out?
