Silkie thread!

I have 3 Silkies and it know one started to lay last month (Azul) because of her prolapsed vent. Got it all fixed and no more problems with that. I have been getting an egg a day so I know the others have to be laying. But now Azul just will sit in the box all day. If I move her and push her out the door she will go and do her chicken thing but if I go back out a couple of hours later she is back in that box. Sometimes at night she is sitting in it, so I move her to their sleep spot and she moves in with the others no problem. I'm guessing she gone broody but not sure and I have never seen another hen in the box. But they don't lay 6 eggs a week do they?

Mine lay every day. Sounds like she is broody. :)

Hi, just recently hatched my first silkies and was wondering if anyone knew if these spots will stay with the chick?

Also, the dark gray one... Any opinions on what color it might be? Maybe blue or splash?

The little spotty one is a ' Paint '.

The spotted one should be splash, and the grey on is considered blue.

Thanks! Well so either Paint or Splash will be interesting then. I had a white roo and splash roo in with a couple hens that were either dark blue or black. What's the trick to Figuring out if a Silkie is black or just really dark blue?

Okay, so I've got a fluffy problem on my hands..... my buff bantam silkie rooster is starting to mount my Barred Rock hens, and silkie pullet in the mornings, and this causes quite alot of racket to come from the coop, not to mention the thought of a chicken coop sounding like a brothel in my backyard isn't the most inviting/wonderful when im trying to sleep . I need to get rid of him. give away, sell, doesn't matter as long as he isn't getting eaten. and anyone interested is local. does anyone live in Arizona that is looking for a Buff Bantam Silkie Rooster? He is really super sweet, and I was thinking about keeping him, but now that he is attempting to breed, I just cant keep him.He isn't show quality, but he is a great pet.
I just went through this last month. I kept hearing tons of commotion outside. I kept thinking predators. But every time I would go out to check everyone would settle down. Then when I'm back inside sounds like all heck is breaking loose out there. I finally spied on them and saw that my cockerel was trying to mate the girls and they were having no part of it!! This only lasted about a week or two and everything has settled down. The girls are letting him mate and everyone is calm. So if that's the only reason you are getting rid of him, give it a little time.

When you separate the feathers the blue is lighter near the skin, whereas a ' true ' black is solid black . Splash , the colour is only surface deep ( as if to be splashed with paint ) and paint it goes all the way to the skin. :)

Ah ok, thank you! So the hen is blue then because her feathers are lighter at the skin. I have her in with a black roo now and you can barely tell the difference because her blue is so dark.

So this little one and a couple others had spots from day 1. Now I'm noticing that some of the solid ones are starting to get spots...do all blondish baby silkies become white when they grow up?
