Silkie thread!

Sounds like a plan. ;)
I usually put some ' sacrificial ' eggs under them when I move them into the brooder. Once I'm certain that they are ' bunkered down ' I replace them with fertile eggs. :)

I have dishpans in all of my nest boxes, which are a set of six, I have the dish pans in there so I can just easily pick up a broody and move her. But this little silky has decided not to compete with the big chickens and she has hollowed at a place underneath in the nest boxes. So it's going to be a little bit trickier to move her. But it's hard to get aggravated at the cute little thing.

What do ya'll feed that silkies love and optimize quality and breeding production. I usually feed layer with a supplemented scratch but tried a bag of medicated chick started because of the extra protein and vitamins. The birds just don't seem to like it as much and their poop is orange.

Depending on the medication, it's not a good idea to feed medicated feed if you are still collecting eggs for consumption. Once the hen is raising chicks it's ok for her to eat it as she won't start laying again for a few months.
A good quality pellet should have all of the essential vitamins and amino acids in it. :)
