My fluffiest chick of the hatch has curled up toes. The other 13 are perfect!

I just found a missing toe nail on one of my chicks. Does that eliminate it as a breeder?

Never mind. I found it on a search!

Just had a baby born today!!!!! Two more possibly coming by tomorrow morning. Mom is very diligent on the nest. Has anyone heard that one way to sex a baby silkie is males can have 4 or 5 toes, whereas females only have 5. Any truth to that? Gonna gloat a little and post more pics.......

Silkies have such a personality...."it grows" and you just want MORE. We have buff, white,
black, and partrige sp? Love them all. And they always ask for treats. Yes, they come to the door and make sounds.

Silkies fill such a need. They are the best chickens I know. Regards, Aria

So what did you find out? Or can you post a link to it? I was sitting here hoping someone would answer because I'd like to know too! I'm trying to find out if it's harder to breed a vaulted skull into them, or fix toes and/or toenails.

I found out a missing toe-nail is a small point deduction at a show and missing toes are DQ. I just did a search here on BYC on "missing toe-nail silkie". I too would like to know the answer to your other questions!
