Silkie thread!

Does anyone know where I can get splash or grey silkie hens from near Southern Maryland? I have tried ordering splash silkies from my pet chicken and gotten only blacks. I would like a pullet or adult that way I am sure no roosters and it would be better for introducing to my flock of 5 month olds. Any info would be greatly appreciated! =) thanks!

Oh yea and bearded preferably!

is it possible to have a sex linked gene in silkies if so that would be legendary!!!!
All chickens have sex-linked genes in them. But for sex-linking to work in determining the gender of newly hatched chicks, you have to breed for it. Most silkie breeders have no desire for that for a number of reasons, starting with the birds would not be recognized varieties, and continuing to ending up without purchasers for a lot of known males--so what can you ethically do with them?

PaintedFeathers over there got me thinking that maybe I should come up with some sort of a name for my little bantam operation.

I have the Silkies and Cochins and I plan to breed them this year. And show! As soon as those buggers stop sneezing! I'm sending one to be looked at and hopefully I'll get some answers to what's going on with couple of our Silkies and the Turkey next door. Tylosin, Oxine, VetRX, Aureomycin didn't do anything either. This is where my expertise ends.

But anyway. I need a "farm name"!

I live on Ray of Light Farm but the chickens belong to me (other than a couple that the farm owns) so I feel that they should have their own farm name.

Suggestions?

Usually people pick their farm name from something significant to them or where they live etc. Mine is Feather Springs Farm, Feathers for "feathers" :) Springs.. the property I owned at the time had a bunch of natural springs on it( a reason to may not use something about a property if you think you might move in the future) and Farm.. well my husband still says it isnt a farm lol! but it is!!!!

Quote: Many people want birds for pets, eggs or pest control. Meeting the standard and paying the extra $$$ for that are not what their need or desire is. And there are a few people I've known who were creeped out by walnut combs. I have had specific requests over the years for birds with single combs, little or no crest, non-feathered legs. Once in a while I can accommodate those requests--usually from project birds that I don't plan to breed.
