If she doesn't have splay leg just curled toes she doesn't need the brace between the legs, that's for chicks that are doing the splits can't walk or stand. The cloth bandaids will probably work better for the toes. Please keep us updated on her progress, she is so cute.

Question....My silkie hen keeps burying her eggs. What the heck? She lays about every other day and I always have to dig the things up. Is she hoarding them so she can set them later? Or is she just trying make me insane by sending me digging for buried treasure?
She is probably trying to hide them from you so she can safely build up her clutch...ducks and geese do this regularly. Chickens do not usually, but on occasion.

Happens here ALL the time, especially with younger males. The rooster may rule the YARD, but the hens rule the coop and the rooster. The boys are allowed to rule the yard because the hens have too much real work to do, and they need to give those darn boys something to keep them occupied.
Just like at my house.

I have a quick question... I have my silkie sitting on duck eggs right now. How long should I let her keep the ducklings before sending them to their new home with another family? I don't want to break her little heart after all that work.

I usually let the hens have chicks/ducklings/poults for three weeks before separating them. That way, the hen gets to teach them and bond with them enough, and by the time they're 3 weeks they usually are feathering out pretty good and can take care of themselves pretty well, but they're still young enough to where I can tame them down to accept me as their new provider. Be warned though, it's usually sad to separate them, as mom and babies will be rather distraught for a few days. But after about a week, they adjust and go about their separate lives :)

This looks ok, just a bit cumbersome. I used either side of a bandaid - sticky part (throw out the pad part), put one on the bottom, one on the top pressing lightly between the toes so the bandaids would stick together, trimmed it up - that was a bit less "material" and it was walking better with it's booties in a day . Took them off after 4 days and worked perfect!
