Silkie thread!

i followed a how to wash your silkie video, also i also looked at how to bath ur silkie thred, but mine got really cold(shivering, panting, and and her body was all frozen up. I didnt do any thing wrong, and i shes full gron and i had to put her under a heat lamp in the house. Has this happend to anyone else... and do you have any tips?
Wash with warm water in the tub or sink. When finished roll them in a towel to absrb muc of the water, then outside on a hot day or under a heat lamp or a dryer on a day that is cooler.

Not knowing the parents this chick is out of, I'd say light blue by the looks of the picture. I've seen all different shades of blue chicks...as well as adults. But if the parents were splash & splash, that should give you splash. Unless one of the parents was from BBS or BS breeding...then maybe it would be possible for the chick to turn blue?? I have no idea. I don't know the genetics that well.

These are some of my blue chicks. The ones on far right and left, those are blue. The one in the middle is the splash.

All of the following are different shades of blue.

Two blues there in the mix.

That's just a few of what I've hatched myself.
I'd be interested to know how your chick turns out! Is it doing any better?
and here are the blues with no pigment! mom is splash and dad is black.

see how no black anything? :( all these three chicks came from the same mom. which I know is the black roo, because he would mate with her all the time. I've never seen the splash roo mate with her, but it is always possible that he did at some point, who knows. Only thing is, for them to lack pigment they have to carry that gene they told me. wouldn't all three have the result of that if they all came from the same mom and dad? (the splash girl and black dad both came from the same breeder) black roo is going to a new home tonight.

I should know even more beginning of next week, I have about 8 or 9 supposed to be hatching out, I have my 2 girls sitting on eggs :)

I need to know two things about incubating so I can incubate eggs that I am hoping someone can please answer
If I have a semi automatic incubator do I need to turn the eggs every 8 hours or is it fine just to turn them when I wake up at 7 get home at 3:30 and go to bed at 9-10
And if I have a semi automatic incubator what position do I have to put my eggs in like is it just flat or the fat end pointing slightly up
Thanks

Is it possible for a silkie to go broody before she even starts to lay eggs? I have a white silkie hen that is broody and a splash and a white pullet that seem to want to "help" lay on the eggs. Maybe they are copying her??

I've heard of that happening. Pullets start to sit in the nest a couple times in the day sometimes before they start laying.

indeed!
Thanks you, Suze!
And for the above comment does the lockdown start on day 18 or once it has finnished
You should turn the eggs at least 3 times a day but not at evenly space intervals. In auto turner the fat side goes up. Most people do lockdown on day 18 some do 19. I check air cells on day 18. If they are large enough I put them in lock down. If not I wait a day. Here's a good site for candling. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation
